Pub to dump ‘bullish’ parking
Pub to dump ‘bullish’ parking firm after too many customers fined
The landlord explained why he had to hire them, but has now ‘had enough’. One fed-up customer backed by the landlord is set to fight the firm in court.

interesting, slightly different perspective on this hardy perennial.
Pubbie: “Cyclists, walkers, people at the football. One day I had 30 cars in the car park but hardly any customers in. I started watching on the CCTV. It was affecting my business.”
A bit from a fed up customer who it sounds like has got a mismatched number plate – from what I see of this, a driver doesn’t get any sort of receipt from the reg number device.
“Joe said he is expecting to go to court in six months’ time to continue his fight against the parking charge which he said he will do “out of principle”. He said: “I know I was a customer in the pub and I have two witnesses that I entered my registration. It’s a principle of fairness and what’s right. It’s not a financial thing at all.”
However, Joe said the past 18 months have caused him a great deal of stress, in addition to medical issues he has had during this time. “I am a 73 year old retired pensioner, a qualified doctor and law abiding citizen who has never knowingly broken the law,” Joe said.
“I also have prostate cancer, am awaiting surgery and have an aortic aneurysm. These past 18 months have caused me a great deal of stress.”

Drivers in England issued
Drivers in England issued major warning over speed limit change ‘no one wants’
The Labour Party government has given councils and local authorities the power to make their own decisions on speed limits, and some parts of the country could see 20mph limits introduced
Could this, doing the rounds yet again, be the sound of drivers, who kill 1,600 people a year objecting to a safety improvement – why yes, yes it could.
“Here’s a question for you. Speed limits are just that, limits. So say I don’t feel comfortable driving at 20mph on your new limits. Who’s to say I can’t drive at 5/10mph?” (Be my guest – you do it enough in one of your traffic jams, just make sure you move over for overtaking cyclists.)
“You’re implementing 20mph speed limits regardless of what the actual residents of Wirral want. A VERY SMALL and vocal minority are in favour of these changes,” a second fumed.

When the annual seriously injured number is down to four figures (approaching 30k in 2023) then maybe, just maybe drivers, can have a legitimate say in these things.

My child has a disability – where can they go to play?
To be asked to be the disability champion for the park was an amazing feeling. We still have a way to go, and our next fight is for access from the car park to the park, which currently needs remodelling, as for those with disabilities, it’s unsafe.
However, whilst this is one success story, too many parks are being modernised without inclusivity in mind.
Why is this not automatic, and I don’t mean one roundabout in a park which can accommodate a wheelchair, I mean every park to accommodate every child, no matter their ability.
People talk about children needing to be out more, more fresh air, more activity, but I ask the authorities to ask themselves this: where do children with disabilities go to play?

Medway Council’s School Streets Scheme to expand to four new schools on September 29
How much do drivers have to take the piss out of local residents twice daily on the so called school run? Well, this amount to earn a ban 8-9 and 3-4.

Dead cat and near misses on ‘ridiculously fast’ Devon road
‘To expect people to walk on a road where the legal limit is 60mph just seems like insanity’
Another resident, Rosie Anderson, who has lived in St Giles for 10 years, doesn’t let her children walk into St Giles village to catch the school bus, despite it being just a ten minute walk.
“It’s such a dangerous road that we can’t walk there, we have to get in our cars to get to the village. The kids can’t walk to the school bus because the road is so narrow and bendy and fast.”
By driving, Rosie admits that she may be adding to the issue, but she’d rather drive than put her children in danger.
“There’s no way I’d let my children walk there, which is crazy because it’s less than a ten minute walk. It’s a shame that they miss out on that freedom and independence,” she said. “They should be able to just come home and let themselves in, it does add to the problem because I’m also driving up and down the road so it all compounds.”

Call to stop ‘ridiculous’
Call to stop ‘ridiculous’ holiday parking in Cornwall coastal town
There are growing demands for action – even red lines – from locals blaming tourists and blue badge holders. ‘It’s gone beyond an inconvenience, it’s fully dangerous.’
Another [Facebook poster] said: “Surely it would make more sense to eliminate the winter patrols which would at least allow double the patrols in the summer when frankly it would be more relevant to the chaos we see during this period. You could go even further and stop spring and autumn which would then see a four-fold in summertime patrols.”

Pensioner ploughed into Wig
Pensioner ploughed into Wig and Pen pub when he pushed wrong pedal
One pubgoer was in hospital for a week for pelvis surgery after what a judge called a ‘deeply troubling’ incident
Prosecutor Lewis Aldous said it had been an “extended momentary lapse” when Roper lost control of his Peugeot car on the steep one way street near his home, “when his foot was on the wrong pedal”.
Roper was fined £270 and ordered to pay £1,500 towards costs and given a 12 month driving ban and told he will need to take an extended test if he wants to drive in the future.

I see the destructive impact
I see the destructive impact of fatal car crashes first-hand and the stupid drivers that cause them
Birmingham was once celebrated as ‘motor city’ but now it has a much darker relationship with cars
Quite often dangerous drivers are normal, law-abiding people in most other aspects of their lives. Workers, students, parents.
They didn’t set out on the day in question to hurt anyone and in most cases they never knew their victims unless they were their own passengers.
But they usually have one fatal flaw in common: selfishness.
BMWs seem to be the most common. Audis, VW Golfs, the odd Mercedes and SEAT Leon as well.
