Worcester News readers react to proposed blanket 20mph speed limit
…James Toghill, was also sceptical, saying: “No to 20mph, cars brake better than they ever have and are designed to hit pedestrians in a safer manner than old cars.”

Plans for Chippenham free
Plans for Chippenham free parking scheme to be debated
Chippenham Town Council will consider a motion on the principle of subsidised free parking in all the town’s Wiltshire Council-owned car parks.
If councillors support the motion, they will decide whether to provide one free hour at an annual cost of £40.28 for an average Band D household, or two hours for £48.94.

My Christmas 2024 list is now open.
I guess the party trick there is to simulate some torque – better than a problem you can only detect under load.
Have you (or anyone) tried changing out individual cogs? Given that a new 105 cassette, assuming I can find one, isn’t going to be less than £45 it sounds like changing 3 or 4 worn cogs might be worth doing. Don’t even ask what 10s ULTEGRA costs.

If I put the micrometer on
If I put the micrometer on the tips of the cogs on a new cassette or the unworn smaller cogs, they’re about 3.5mm across. I was getting readings of less than 3mm on some of these teeth.

A couple of changes to this,
A couple of changes to this, one of my favourite builds.
As it’s a 22.5″ frame, I’ve always found the bars a bit on the low side. I’ve changed over to a longer stem, which necessitated new bars for the 25.4mm fit. Having a raised (thicker) clamping area makes so much sense – without it, you can struggle to pass the bars through the quill stem – in this case, I had to bend it out and then bend it back to get the bolt seated. The Cambium bar tape was amenable to being re-installed.
I’ve taken off the Continental 5000s – they weren’t all that puncture proof IME and we’re running Hutchison Challenger 28s for winter now.

Not sure if drivers have
Not sure if drivers have quite grasped how these “captive” policies (and the issue they’re designed to address) work:
Drivers urged to ‘boycott’ Trowbridge car park over new cameras
The clampdown on drivers leaving the vicinity of the car park while their vehicles remain has led to some people saying the area should be boycotted until the regulations are changed.
Others say that boycotting the car park will affect trade at nearby food and drink outlets, as well as the 83-bed Premier Inn and the ODEON cinema, who are then likely to complain about their trade being affected by a lack of customers.
