If only there were some way

If only there were some way of knowing ahead of time that the water level can change significantly! Even better, if there were published tables of predicted times of such events.

I’ve wanted a Brompton for a long time, and now I have one. Shown here with the Bickerton it replaces, the Brompton is much nicer.

Flat bar, 6 very useable speeds, no rear rack. It weighs the same as the Bickerton, but folds significantly smaller.

    “The cyclists take delight in

“The cyclists take delight in zooming past pedestrians as close and as fast as possible.”

This seems unlikely unless they’re teenagers trying to impress their friends. Do you have some insight into their mental state that most people wouldn’t, or do they laugh maniacally as they pass?

In any case, yes separation might help if the path is wide enough, and yes cyclists should ride relatively slowly around pedestrians and give them a wide berth, even if it means waiting to pass. The vast majority of us do so.

A map link to the path might help if you really want fruitful discussion.

Her defence solicitor, Rhys Rosser, urged the court not to ban her so she could visit her child in hospital in Salisbury, in Wiltshire, arguing it “cannot be done by public transport”.

That’s a trip that can easily be done by bicycle in just a few days.

It is odd. From the lamp posts visible in the photo, and comparing to Street View, it does appear to have been attempting to drive out away from the sea. Maybe the open top bus is close on height, and would just fit if driven right down the middle. In which case, it wasn’t “driven accidentally under the bridge,” it was just driven incompetently under the bridge.

    Found better images, and one

Found better images, and one sign says clearance is 11′-9″, and the other says 3.5 m, which is just under 11′-6″.

Google says a London double decker is over 16′ tall, the shortest I could find is 12′-3″, and even a single decker bus is over 10′ tall.

This is like me trying to drive my MINI under a lorry trailer. Oops, it accidentally didn’t fit.

Accidentally driven under the bridge? Did the bridge suddenly jump out in front of the bus? I think it’s a safe bet that the bus was deliberately driven (most of the way) under the bridge, it’s just that the driver either:

    • didn’t know what these signs mean
    • didn’t know how tall the bus was
    • wasn’t good at maths
    • was an utter moron

    Let me fix their sub-heading:

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that Jonathan Adair was serving ignoring his second driving ban when his dangerous actions led to another motor spinning 360 degrees and crashing near Cardonald.

I had the exact same problem with a brand new chain, after one long gravel ride, just a few weeks ago. Spent ages trying to fix the “ghost shifting” while I was riding via a barrel adjuster, before I figured it out.

    Never wear anything under

Never wear anything under cycling shorts with a pad.

I don’t bother with them for short rides (under 40 miles / 65 km) though. Mostly because I’m usually cycling to somewhere and don’t want to either change or wear cycling shorts for hours while not cycling.

Since a lot of things have

Since a lot of things have been eliminated, here’s a less-likely option: is it really ghost shifting, or is the chain skipping a tooth on the rear? Sometimes when riding it’s hard to tell the difference.

Check the entire chain for links that are bound up. Sometimes they will come off the top of the upper pulley, and especially on the smaller cogs will not bend back fast enough to make the corner, making the chain skip a link.
