Tern has updated its Vektron folding e-bike with a new range of models featuring a more powerful motor and the option to run a belt drive over a chain. Here at ebiketips, we’re big fans of the Vektron for its versatility and the way it offers the ride of a full-sized e-bike without needing the same amount of storage space.
The Vektron doesn’t compromise in the same way a lot of other folding e-bikes often do. Yes, it’s heavier than many, but motor performance was excellent even before this upgrade and it’s a great commuter or urban bike with plenty of ways to transport luggage.

What’s new with the Tern Vektron?

The big updates to the Vektron are the inclusion of a more powerful Bosch motor and the option to run a belt drive over a chain. The older Vektrons used Bosch’s Active Line motor, but the new P range adopts the Performance Line motor which brings an increase in torque, with up to 75Nm now available compared to 40Nm.
This also means the Vektron can take advantage of Bosch’s Smart System. Why might this be of use to urban riders? For things like the e-bike alarm, e-bike lock and route planning. You can also add in GPS tracking in case your bike ever gets stolen.

Tern Team Captain, Josh Hon, said, “It’s really hard to build a bike that rides like a great e-bike and folds like a great folding bike. Usually there are compromises made on ride quality, motor power, battery safety, serviceability, weight, or folded size. But with Vektron, we’ve managed to design a bike that’s great on all of those critical parameters and that’s why we call it our Goldilocks bike. It’s juuust right.”
The P range

The Vektron will come in two builds: The P5i, with a Nexus gear hub and Gates belt drive system, and the P10 which uses a 1×10 derailleur and chain system.
Both retain the brand’s easy-to-fold frame with an OCL+ frame joint. But what’s interesting is that riders can now choose different riding positions depending on the model. So if the original, sportier riding position suits, then the P10 is ideal, while the P5i suits a more comfort-oriented cockpit with a swept back handlebar and a more upright riding position.
The new Vektron P range will arrive in the UK in spring next year, and while prices are yet to be confirmed for the UK market, they will start from €3,999 in Europe.
