As always, we’ve been testing out some new kit, and this week’s lineup includes Van Rysel’s RCR helmet, built for climbing days, Navihood’s L2 bike computer, promising full navigation, and Castelli’s ultra-light Squall Shell Jacket. We’re also trying out Tailfin’s newly released rear top tube bag and finishing things off with a pair of high-performance sunnies from adidas. Full reviews are on the way, but here’s a first look.

Van Rysel’s RCR range, short for “Racer”, includes a variety of performance-focused products, and the RCR Mips Road Helmet is the go-to choice for the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale team when tackling hilly races.

Described by Van Rysel as “lightweight and ventilated,” this helmet also features added Mips protection for enhanced safety. Our size M weighed in at 279g on the road.cc Scales of Truth, and Mike Stenning will be putting it to the test.

We’re testing the white version, but it’s also available in a range of bold colours including mauve, indigo blue, pink, and khaki.

Castelli’s Squall Shell Jacket is a waterproof outer layer that’s impressively lightweight tipping our scales at 87g (size M), making it ideal for stashing in a jersey pocket or saddle bad when the weather looks uncertain.

It comes with fully taped seams, elasticated wrists to seal out the wind and rain, and a reflective vertical strip on the back for added visibility. Castelli recommends it for riding in temperatures from 4°C up to 18°C.

We’re testing the jacket in the electric lime colourway, but it’s also available in grey and black options, and seven sizes from XS to 3XL.

Tailfin Rear Top Tube bag (£55)

Tailfin has recently released a new Rear Top Tube Bag, designed to make use of the space just in front of your seatpost. With a 0.9L capacity, it’s just the right size for essentials like tools and snacks, “without adding unnecessary bulk”, says Tailfin.

The tapered shape is engineered to reduce thigh rub, while a carbon stiffener helps the bag keep its shape. It attaches to your top tube using Tailfin’s V-Mount system, with the option of two or three straps depending on your setup.

To keep everything protected from the elements, the bag features fully welded seams and Tailfin’s own gutter system to help prevent water ingress, so your Haribo and Allen keys should stay dry in the rain.
