Italian brand Exept will be exhibiting its own custom carbon fibre frames, made using a patented adjustable monocoque construction process, at the North American Handbuilt Bicycle Show (NAHBS) this weekend.
Carbon fibre is an immensely flexible material but the moulds are prohibitively expensive which is why most custom carbon frames use the tube-to-tube or lugged carbon methods. Mass-market carbon frames are made using moulds which speeds up the process but limits customisation.
Exept says its patented construction technique allows more complex tube shapes and tube lay-up than other manufacturing methods allowing it to tailor a frame for a cyclist's riding style, physiology, and personal preferences. The adjustable modes also mean the geometry can be refined for the requirements of different cyclists and applications.
The company will be using NAHBS to showcase two bikes made using this frame building method, which includes the Allroad and Aero models it currently offers. The former has space for up to 30mm wide tyres and features include a PF86.5mm bottom bracket, internal cable routing with a downtube port for the Di2 junction box and an internal seat clamp.
The website allows easy customisation of each frame as well, so you can choose between classic and integrated, race and endurance riding style and other aspects that determine the sort of bike you want.
Custom carbon doesn’t come cheap and framesets are priced from €5,500. If you're going to NAHBS do be sure to take a closer look. More info at www.exept.cc
