Own a Brompton produced in the last three years? Chances are it might have a bottom bracket that could be faulty with a “higher than expected reported incidence of failure” according to the London-based folding bike company.
It has issued a voluntary recall for bottom brackets on affected bikes produced between April 2014 and May 2017. It will provide a free replacement.
You can determine if your Brompton is affected by the serial number on the frame. The bikes affected have serial numbers from 1403284144 to 1705150001 and can be any model, e.g. M, P, S or H type, or any other configuration.
Brompton says the FAG bottom bracket, made by a third party supplier, meets international safety standards but doesn’t “meet the standards which don’t “meet the standards which Brompton sets for its components.” It will replace the bottom brackets with a new tested part free of charge.
