It is awards season and this week the annual Design & Innovation Award has listed its top bikes and products for 2017, with the new Canyon Endurace and Whyte Wessex among the winners.
- road.cc Bike of the Year 2016-17
The Design & Innovation Award consists of 40 industry experts, journalists and engineers gathering in the Dolomites to argue and debate the best bikes and products to feature across a range of categories, which this year includes urban bikes along with e-bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, equipment, components and tourism.
In the Road Bike category, the panel awarded the Canyon Endurace CL SLX 9.0 Di2, Trek Domane SLR, Whyte Wessex (three bikes that also featured well in the road.cc Bike of the Year Awards) and the Santa Cruz Stigmata CX1.
- road.cc Sportive and Endurance Bike of the Year 2016-17
In the components awards, it highlighted the 3T Discus Plus C25, ENVE SES 4.5 AR Disc and Lightweight Wegweiser as the best wheels. Oakley’s new Radar Pace - smart glasses - and the new RaceFace EC 90 SL crankset got a mention.
There was also a shout out for the Polartec Alpha fabric, which I can only agree with, having tested in it several garments over the past year and been highly impressed, including Sportful’s R&D Zero Jacket.
Lastly, the Knog Oi bell got an award. You can see our video first look of the diddy bell here.
The Design and Innovation Awards committee says the awards is a “unique event with the clear mission to bring the international bicycle industry to the next level. We want to make the bicycle world better for all bikers, the industry and media landscape. We join forces with the most experienced journalists and opinion leaders in order to award the world’s best products for the next season and to make pioneering decisions.”
