Setting up a video camera and GPS computer on the handlebars of your bike can take up a lot of space, so why not combine the two into one compact product? That’s the idea behind the Camile, a new integrated action camera and GPS computer.
The Camile is made by Chinese company MiniWing and it has just launched on the Indiegogo crowdfunding website. It hopes to raise $20,000 to put the product, which it has been developing for the past year, into production.
Despite its compact appearance, the Camile packs a video camera capable of recording HD 1080p/30 fps or 720p/60fps, with a 140-degree wide-angle lens to capture all the action from your cycle ride. The camera offers two shooting modes, video or burst shooting mode, with intervals of between three and 30 seconds.
The Camile packs WiFi and Bluetooth so you can edit the footage on a smartphone, using the company’s own app, from where you can easily share the edit you’ve created. You can also setup smart notifications as well for messages and phone calls.
As well as recording video from your ride, the GPS computer provides all the data you could want, such as speed, distance and altitude. The company’s own smartphone app allows you to set training plans and routes to follow. It does look like it can do most things a regular GPS computer can do.
The Camile has a 1350mAh battery and the company claims this is good enough for 3-hours of video recording, or 16-hours if just using it as a GPS computer. You get a 32GB SD memory card which will store up to 8-hours of video.
The camera is light, a claimed 55g, and measures 65 x 43.5 x 16mm, so it’s pretty compact. It’s available in five colours so you can coordinate with your bike if you want to. The company has developed its own quick release mount that will attach to any bike.
The Indiegogo campaign will run for 45 days. An early bird discount means you can get a Camile for $89, with worldwide shipping. Delivery dates, providing the funding goal is met, is expected in March 2016.

I will buy this cam mainly because of the shape and the gps feature. this cam will look nice and not to proud unlike most well known cam that makes you look like a Telly Tubbies when mounted on top of the helmet (Go pro, Garmin and Sony). and If the recording time is true (3 hours) then this is a perfect cam for me. also for the price you cant go wrong with this cam.
Ok this is getting boring now...Go Pro or Go home
But what if your commute doesn't involve jumping out of an aeroplane on a surfboard?
"Fed up of paying expensive actors to narrate your videos? Then you need Narrate-o-bot! Buy yours now for only £79.95"
That promo video is sheer comedy genius, so bad it's compelling to watch.
Taking my cue from the voice-over I am off to, "Love myself" and "Explore the road untaken."
Quite what the missus will make of this I do not know.
I want one! I just need a simple camera my widow can take to the Police.
Considering they are only a month or so away from 'mass production' there was precious little showing of a working model there. The 'feel good' voiceover was awful. That said, anything that helps to shake up the status quo of Garmin or not much else must be good.
Build in a basic "be seen by" light, and you've got the device I've been talking about for ages. There are lots of commuters who would buy a simple integrated device, that will last for their ride to work and back each day.
They don't need 4k video with high frame rates, a light like a search beam or any other top end spec. Just something that's good enough, requires little faffing about and (probably most important) is affordable.
looks interesting. Not sure about the dodgy voiceover in the video!
So a bit like the original Garmin Virb Elite, but cheaper.
