Witness appeal after second Hull cycling fatality over Easter weekend

Police in East Yorkshire have launched a witness appeal following the second cyclist fatality in the county over the Easter bank holiday weekend, after a 46-year-old man from Hull died yesterday from head injuries sustained in a collision with a car on Sunday while negotiating a roundabout in the city. On Good Friday, a 65-year-old man from Selby was killed near Brough while riding a time trial.

The cyclist involved in Sunday's incident, which took place at 4pm on Sunday at the Derringham Bank roundabout where Willerby Road and Spring Bank West meet, died in Hull Royal Infirmary yesterday from the head injuries he sustained.

Humberside Police say that they arrested and interviewed the 29-year-old driver of the Renault Clio involved in the incident, and have subsequently released him on police bail while their investigations continue.

Roads policing Inspector Mark Hughes commented: “This is a busy roundabout junction in Hull with both motorists and pedestrians in the vicinity and I am sure there will have been people around at the time who witnessed this incident."

Inspector Hughes has asked anyone who saw either the cyclist, who was riding a red and black Raleigh bike, or the black Renault Clio prior to the collision to contact Humberside Police on non-emergency number 101, citing log 430 of 31 March 2013.
