Whisky Trail, a new sportive for Scotland

Midsummer weekend is a busy time for cycling events, and if you're anywhere near Elgin it just got a bit busier with a new sportive, the Whisky Trail, rolling out from the Moray town on 24 June for a ride past some famous distilleries. Moray is home to over half of Scotland's whisky producers and the rides will roll past world famous malt whisky names such as Glenfiddich, Glenlivet and The Macallan.

There's 40 and 80 mile options, as well as a family ride of 10 miles and the event is rasing funds for North East Sensory Services, a charity that provides advice and support to over 3000 people with sight loss, hearing loss and the Deaf community in the Grampian area.

David Lang of Maximise Sport, toe organisers, said, "The Whisky Trail Sportive has all the elements necessary to deliver an
outstanding sportive - great roads, magnificent scenery and an exceptional route, following parts of the renowned Malt Whisky Trail all contribute to create an event with outstanding potential." When pressed to confirm or deny whether there'd be whisky tasting at the feed stops we were disappointed to learn that drams are not included in your £35 entry fee. All the susual stuff is though: electronic timing, feed stations, goody bag and comprehensive signing. There's also showering and changing facilities at Elgin FC.
