Entries are now open for the Coasts and Castles cyle challenge this September. The 176 mile ride which is open to individuals or teams starts in Gateshead on Friday 25th September and finishes in Edinburgh on Sunday 27.
Riders will follow the Coasts and Castles South cycle route through some magnificent landscape and historic landmarks such as Hadrian's Wall and Arthur's Seat.
The ride, organised by Sustrans with help from Riot Events, will give cyclists an opportunity to take a two-wheeled challenge, whilst raising money to help support the vital work of Sustrans.
Jenny Sheriff, Sustrans' Fundraising Director, said: 'The ride will cross a part of the UK that is steeped in history, offers breathtaking scenery and is home to some spectacular wildlife. All this, combined with the satisfaction of completing a 200-mile ride should make it a truly uplifting experience.
'Those who take part in the ride will be among thousands of others that help to raise money in support of Sustrans' vital work. They are incredibly important, as great walking and cycling routes like Coasts and Castles South would not exist without them.'
Other ride highlights include crossing the iconic Gateshead Millennium Bridge, a picnic overlooking the unspoilt island of Lindisfarne, and an exclusive tour and dinner at the medieval Alnwick Castle, where parts of the new Harry Potter film were made.
To take part you will need to contribute a minimum of £120 to cover the cost of the trip, which will include meals, camping accommodation, maps and other limited edition Sustrans goodies. Each rider will also need to raise at least £500 in sponsorship, which will support Sustrans' work, including helping to maintain and develop the 12,000 miles of National Cycle Network across the UK.
