Transport bosses in Leeds are looking to build segregated cycleways on Dewsbury Road, Clay Pit Lane and Elland Road, with work expected to start early next year. A report by Leeds City Council says these areas are “key missing links” in cycle infrastructure.
Leeds Live reports that the £6m project, which has been set up by West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA), will be discussed by Leeds City Council’s executive board today.
The Clay Pit Lane proposals are for a segregated cycle track between the junctions of Sheepscar and Woodhouse Lane.
On Dewsbury Road, cycle tracks would be installed between Garnet Road and Beeston Ring Road; and also between Hunslet Hall Road and junction 3 of the M621. These would link existing cycle tracks already in place.
On Elland Road, a two-way segregated lane would be added between Elland Road park and ride and Leeds Bridge.
A Leeds City Council report states: “The schemes essentially form key missing links in the infrastructure not covered by other funding streams and where no suitable alternatives are available.
“By helping form a complete and coherent network they have every potential to maximise benefits and usage.”
Construction is expected to start in the spring of 2020 and be completed by the spring of 2021.
