Video: Dublin taxi driver drives on wrong side of road at cyclist

Footage published on Streamable shows a Dublin taxi driver driving on the wrong side of the road, apparently aiming at a cyclist. The incident follows one in which a Dublin taxi driver appeared to deliberately knock a cyclist off last month, which is currently under investigation.

The latest footage to emerge was actually shot in July by another car’s dash cam on Belvedere Road, just off Dorset Street.

A cyclist and taxi are seen running a red light. When the taxi driver veers towards the cyclist a little further on, the cyclist moves to a cycle lane on the opposite side of the road.

As both near the next junction, the taxi driver also steers across, braking in an apparent attempt to block the cyclist’s path.

As the cyclist heads off round the corner, the taxi driver is left facing oncoming traffic at a set of lights. He is then seen driving onto the pavement to get out of the way.

The Garda press office told Irish Cycle it was unaware of the incident. “We have no such incidents reported or recorded matching your description.”

Last month Dublin YouTube user Jose Jimenez uploaded footage of a taxi driver first braking in front of him and then veering into him as he cycled through the city.

That incident is currently being investigated by police.
