A £500,000 closed road cycling circuit at Pembrey Country Park could become the next step in a plan to make Carmarthenshire the “cycling hub of Wales”.
The idea was spoken about after Carmarthen Velodrome reopened in October and a consultation is now underway.
Anyone who wishes to comment on the proposals can have their say up until December 31. More details here.
The BBC reports that the track is expected to generate an annual income of over £25,000 for Pembrey Country Park. It will be used for recreation, as well as for staging local and national competitions.
Executive board member for culture, sport and tourism, Peter Hughes-Griffiths, said the circuit would be to British cycling standard and would help boost an “already growing tourism economy”.
He added: “Here in Carmarthenshire, it is our ambition to become the cycling hub of Wales”.

Pembrey park is pretty much fine as it is if you close a few roads to cars and take out a few speed humps, what the hell are they going to do with the other £499k?

“a consultation is now underway” is your answer… consultant’s fees are devilishly high 🙂
