Video: Giro Rosa riders labour up 30 per cent climb during time trial

Annemiek van Vleuten quickest over tough course

The riders taking part in the 10-stage Giro Rosa were today greeted with a challenging 12.7km time trial course which took in the 30 per cent Muro di Cocciari.

One of the main races in women's road cycling, the Giro Rosa runs until July 9.

The stage five profile looked like this:

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Mattia Bazzoni posted the following video:

According to the race organisers, the 400m stretch at one point hits 30 per cent.

Annemiek van Vleuten was quickest on the day, followed by fellow Dutch rider, Anna van der Breggen, who retained the overall lead. Van der Breggen, the Olympic road race champion, also won all three of the Ardennes Classics earlier this year.

Earlier in the Giro Rosa, Hannah Barnes won stage three – her first Women's World Tour stage victory – while fellow Britons Nikki Brammeier and Lizzie Deignan were among the Boels-Dolmans riders who won the opening team time trial.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.
