World champion Peter Sagan is featured in a new spot for one of his personal sponsors, Telekom Slovakia, coming to the help of a young woman who is struggling to get up a hill on her bike.
If the plot of a champion cyclist helping inspire a young woman to ride up an ascent is a familiar one, that’s because it’s been used before; the 2014 Japanese anime short Hill Climb Girl saw Sir Bradley Wiggins – well, an animated version of him – come to the help of the title character as she tried to beat fellow students racing their bikes to school.

Back in the real world, we reported earlier this year how Sagan had inspired a young female cyclist from the UK, eight-year-old Ruby Isaac from Northamptonshire.
After she posted a video herself scoffing Haribo after a bike ride in homage to similar footage of Sagan hoovering up the gummy sweets following his victory at Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne in February, he tweeted her to say: “One day you could even become world champion in a few years.”
