Video: Unboxing the Lightweight Meilenstein Carbon Clincher Disc

Disc brake version of the amazing Meilenstein. Only £4,779...

Just landed at road.cc HQ are these stupendously expensive wheels from Lightweight.

These are the disc version of the already reviewed Meilenstein carbon clinchers. Our set here come with 12mm centre lock disc hubs although there is a 6 bolt option available.

Lightweight Meilenstein Tubular Review

The rims are 47.5mm deep with a dated-looking 'V' shaped rim.

The rim is also very narrow at only 12.5mm internally. This does give a very narrow profile, with Lightweight recommending either 23 or 25mm tyres.

At just 1,370g for the set, these will be ones for the climbers although there is a sizeable 120kg rider weight limit.

Lightweight are know for their exceptional stiffness and these look to be going the same way with 20 pure carbon spokes in each wheel laced 2 cross. The spokes are also tied where they meet each other for that extra stiffness.

The price is also quite exceptional. At £4,779 they are some of the most expensive wheels in the world.

The disc hubs represent a step forward for Lightweight and it will be interesting for cyclocross riders to see if they release a tubular version. They are after all, some of the best race wheels going.

I don't get it.

Treads is going the same way, wider and wider and fatter.

Lightweight do it opposite . . . still V rim profile and 12.5mm internal!!?

Interesting why they do that, of course its gonna be aero as hell at straight headwind.

Absolutely Mungecundle; try looking at WR Compositi. Admit still a lot but gets closer to 1000g for the tubs.

Riders up to 120Kg? Just the sort to worry about saving 100g on their wheels.

Just out of interest are there any mainstream wheelwrights who offer lighter wheels specifically for the more svelte cyclist?

Thanks very much :). Those prices are just ridiculous for a set of wheels.

I spent £389 for 60 mm carbon wheels that weigh 1600g

Someone's gotta do it so it might as well be me yes :

Nearly 5 grand for tyres with 12.5mm internal width that can only take 23 or 25mm tyres  ?!
