The aerodynamic benefits of the Chris Froome descending style may be up for debate, but most people would agree it’s not the safest way to cycle down a hill. This video recently posted to Facebook appears to back that up.
A Colombian cyclist’s headcam captures footage of another cyclist passing him. We see that person drop down off the saddle and onto the top tube a la Froome, but then it all goes awry in spectacular fashion.
It could have been worse though. A large truck comes to a sudden halt in the adjacent lane having avoided hitting the faller.
The question is, what caused this unconventional dismount? The footage is a bit grainy, but the road itself seems clear. The cyclist instead appears to fall the moment they try and start pedalling.

Thanks for that.

Toe overlap with front wheel is my guess.
My guess is he sat down on
My guess is he sat down on what appears to be a mini bike pump on his top tube, then slipped to one side, his weight shifting causing the bike to wobble. Not a great position to be in to recover it after that!

Glad he appeared to be mostly ok, but the irony is that it didn’t even look to be a very aero position – head far too high! Probably would have been faster on the saddle!
“Froome tuck”??? Ha,
“Froome tuck”??? Ha, everybody knows that’s called supertuck, and people were doing it when Froome was on Barloworld.

A “Froome tuck” refers specifically to crashing when you do it

Why would that be? Froome didn’t crash.

it’s a froome tuck if the only race they have ever seen is the 2016 tdf.
Also, this is a british site, no other cyclists exist apart from marginally british ones.

It’s gonna be called froome tuck as if he invented it, from now on. Like people thinking M. Jackson invented the moonwalk.

Why is this now referred to as “Froome descending”?? Sagan was doing this years ago, and other riders even before then.
I don’t get people who really risk everything on descents, you’re not a pro in a race, those handful of seconds don’t matter, yet you could really fuck yourself up for basically no reason. Go fast, that’s the idea but pushing it to the limits is stupid.
