‘Ride with Contador’ competition now open

Win five days’ training in Gran Canaria

Any cyclists keen to spend five days training alongside Alberto Contador can now be in with a chance of doing so. Fabric specialists Polartec have launched their ‘Train with Contador’ competition with 10 riders set to join the Spaniard and his Fundacion Contador team in Gran Canaria in October.

The U23 Fundacion Contador team is now in its third season and with a junior team also already established, Contador says that creating a professional team is the logical next step.

“We have not set a date for this goal. One possibility is to start with a Continental team, but the date is still open, although we are already working on it. Ultimately the team will be in the image of the junior and U23 teams, offering the riders guaranteed continuity for several seasons allowing maximum stability for its riders. Hopefully we’ll get there very soon.”

In the meantime, he’ll be training with the under-23s and team sponsors Polartec are offering you the chance to join them.

Run via Strava and open from today, the competition demands that entrants cycle 1,000km before September 26. However, only those who ‘keep up with Contador’s pace’ will be in with a chance of winning.

To this end, the month’s riding will incorporate four levels of personal challenges. Only once each level is completed and the Strava badge earned will the next be unlocked.

Weekly prizes are also on offer from a number of the brands who make use of Polartec fabrics, including Castelli, Sportful, Rapha and rh+.

To enter, visit a the FollowContador website.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

And anyway, just think of all the hanging about, waiting for him to catch up.

Given the amount of bad luck and accidents he's had this year, I'm not sure I would want to ride with him if I'm honest!

Don't see anything on Strava challenges. Followcontador's website is down. They tweeted it was about to go live, then they deleted the tweet. All on a bank holiday where people might be thinking about planning their ride in line with the competition.

Looking good guys laugh
