Police appeal after cyclist is killed in collision on Newcastle's Great North Road

Incident took place at around 9.30pm on Wednesday

Police are appealing for information following a collision between a cyclist and a silver Ford Mondeo in Newcastle on Wednesday night.

The incident took place at 9.33pm on the Great North Road. Police and ambulance staff attended the scene and the 20-year-old cyclist was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with serious injuries. Chronicle Live now reports that he died yesterday afternoon.

A section of the Great North Road near to the Blue House roundabout was closed for a period so that a collision investigation could take place. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1130 27/01/16.
