Video - OUCH! Drunken bet to climb bike shop sign goes wrong

Man challenged to ride bicycle used as sign brings it - and himself - crashing down to earth

A man who climbed onto a bicycle used as a shop sign in Canandaigua, upstate New York to win a drunken bet suffered broken bones as his weight brought it – and him –  crashing down and to the concrete pavement below.

The ill-advised prank was filmed by a friend who promised him a shot if he managed to get on the bike, stipulating, “You’ve got to get on it and pedal the pedal … your ass needs to be on the seat. I will buy you a shot if your ass gets on that seat.”

Another man, rather more aware of the risks involved, says: “I’ll buy you a shot if you don’t do that.” With hindsight, two shots may have been a more attractive offer.

Halfway through, the challenger seems to realise the peril the bet has put his drinking buddy in, saying: “Dude, he’s gonna crack his f*cking head” – prophetic words as, at the very moment of triumph, whatever was holding the bike to the shopfront gives way.

Warning – video contains very strong language throughout.

Laughter very quickly turns to concern as it becomes clear the man is out cold, as the friend who challenged him utters, “Oh shit,” and a concerned woman is heard saying, “Is he alive?”

According to Mad World News, the episode unfolded outside the RV&E Bike and Skate store, whose employee Doug Sharp told the website that the hapless punter, despite apparently sustaining “several broken bones” had come into the shop the following day to apologise.

He added that the man promised “to make good on it,” and it’s probably a safe bet that if the sign does get replaced, he won’t be trying a repeat of the stunt.

At least he went back to apologise. I expect he's learned a hard lesson. I'm sure lots of us have done stupid stuff after drinking too.

Plus 1 for carrying his broken bones back to the shop to apologise, not often that happens these days.

I'm betting there might be a moral involved here. 24

That's nearly as funny as the asthma story!
