Danny MacAskill copped a bit of flak back in August when he released a short film shot at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles, in which he pulled off several tricks on his bike to an audience comprising several ‘Playmates.’
This week, an appropriate response has appeared on Vimeo – a video in which a woman on a Raleigh Chopper, to the admiring glances of a trio of Glaswegian gentlemen, attempts what may generously be termed “sub-MacAskillesque” tricks on her bike.
Much of the film, which is the work of Glasgow-based Bike Gob, was shot around the People’s Palace at Glasgow Green, renamed here the ‘Playgirl Palace.’
The stunts on the bike may not be top-drawer – which is point , with a caption at the end saying, “Playboy Bunnies are about as cool as Bike Gob’s tricks” – but the camera work makes up for that.
Born in Scotland, Simon moved to London aged seven and now lives in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds with his miniature schnauzer, Elodie. He fell in love with cycling one Saturday morning in 1994 while living in Italy when Milan-San Remo went past his front door. A daily cycle commuter in London back before riding to work started to boom, he's been news editor at road.cc since 2009. Handily for work, he speaks French and Italian. He doesn't get to ride his Colnago as often as he'd like, and freely admits he's much more adept at cooking than fettling with bikes.
