I was always surprised by how seemingly little research Kirby used to do, but it makes sense if he gets it all from there instead now. God forbid he actually has to talk about racing and not what his favourite wine is.
So now we know why you're all so damn good at this game then. I do all my planning off my own research and feelings. It's why I always make dodgy decisions and waste transfers
I've never even heard of it. I'm on ipad....does it translate to English?
Certainly does.
As a very thick sort of computer type....exactly how do I turn that into English?
Sorry, I'm also no computer buff. My son set it up for me using a site called translatetheweb.com. There is also google translate. If you have difficulties I'm sure someone on here will be able to talk you through it.
I took Bissegger out yesterday....
Many of us did that before Stage 2. I doubt that he was in many teams today.
I left him in because of good GC position and he might want to sprint. After seeing him do bugger all in stages 2 and 3 I thought it was time. Damn it.
He's making a habit of breaks.
He's got a nice fast finish as well. Going in a break the day after a time trial is what he needs to learn to do, just to make things easier in the game!
For me, he looks like a future Paris-Roubaix contender but, as you say, it depends on his team. So many riders are hard to pigeonhole nowadays.... Van Aert, Lutsenko, VdP, Ganna .... it really depends on how the team let them develop.
Whereas I wish I'd taken Kragh Andersen out days ago!
Time for some payback off Mathews, and Laporte? Think Molano, and Teunissen will also be in the mix for stage3.
I had Matthews because of the TT (ha) and it would have been silly to move him...but that final climb was always underestimated by the tipsters...
I'm not even sure about tomorrow.
If it was a better breakaway day for pts I'd be tempted to punt on Pellaud. Imhof went today so history says Pellaud tomorrow, or maybe both.
BTW...Actually wrote this yesterday for somebody...
"If you’re looking for cheap riders then it might be worth remembering that Switzerland has it’s own cycling team that is very fond of being in the break. I’m expecting Imhof and Pellaud to be regular breakaway riders. Also Matthias Frank and Schar from AG2R might be worth a good lot of pts. The Swiss riders just seem to go for the breaks in their own tour"
I should listen to my own advice.
The Swiss historically are very active in the breaks, not always easy picking the right one though. Must admit to thinking Imhof was a new kid on the block, was surprised when the commentator said he was thirty.
yep also stuck with Mathews and Laporte, hope they come good this stage, they are also both in my purist team which is not quite working out... Laporte's TT was not great, looks like form has dropped since the spring...
And I didn't pick Kung because..........
I didn't?
It does make it better knowing I'm not the only one. Just didn't fancy him in the rain on a technical course... what do I know?
Well I picked Dennis because I was certain he would win (like most others did) which just shows that TT's are never as predictable as we think. Kung won, but he had just as much chance of doing a Dennis. Seems that most TT riders are up and down right now...I'd have bet my house on Benjamin Thomas and Matthews doing better than they did today.
I did pick Kung, but he was in and out of my team as it was developed.
Thomas and Matthews were in ther too, so I didn't get it all right. The right balance between having 1st stage specialists, riders for Stage 2 and budget wasn't as easy a equation as it sometimes can be.
I have kept Kung for today, that may be a mistake too.
I kept him as well. Not expecting much in the way of stage points though. Today's finish puts me in mind of the Poggio at the end of Milan - San Remo...except the climb is harder...shorter, but harder...and an equally steep descent. That finish is a great leveller between sprint, punchers and GC....I see no reason why this won't be the same.
I think Kung should be ok today, will probably keep some GC points and could be in top twenty. So many riders with an eye on other goals (Alaphilippe - TdF, MvdP - Olympics) that it is hard to know who is going to give it 100%. Throw in a medium mountain stage and some iffy weather like today and it becomes a lottery!
