Didn’t former Tory Chancellor Lord Lawson say that cycle lanes did more damage than the Luftwaffe to London? Surely we should spend £4.5 billion installing cycle lanes in hostile nations? More effective than bombing them.

@Gravel1-2 How would that work? Are you talking about during races they could see that wattage suddenly spiked by a flat 30w? I guess it could help but I really don't think motor doping is happening in the pro peleton. People just love a potential scandal and a conspiracy. The risk of getting caught and the consequences for the team and the rider would be catastrophic.

A strange [false] dichotomy, surely? A strange equivalence would be to suggest that we can fight off invasion (or possibly bomb random civilians in faraway countries) with cycle lanes.

Not discussed here but couldn’t this also be used to detect any instances of motor doping (or at least highlight for targeted testing).

@wtjs I would suggest that Truss was a minor blip - I doubt there's any lasting damage to her brief premiership other than her and Kwateng's reputation. Covid, and the inflation that followed, is probably the largest short to medium term hit to the economy, but Brexit will be the biggest long term destroyer of growth.

@chrisonabike It grieves me to support Musk, but I think he's right in this case, based on incomplete and surmised information. Some people, at least, regularly state that, statistically, self-driving are going to be safer than human Audi, BMW and Tesla etc. drivers. It's the nutter human driver here who's guilty, and it looks like Tesla have an intact black box. I wonder what happens when the black box is destroyed as a result of the incident or because the driver has destroyed it. I suppose the case against Tesla will be along the lines of: but you should have known that the sort of people who buy Teslas will disable the safety features in favour of more acceleration and the ability to drive dangerously, and should have enforced safe driving.
