We’ve got a right old mix of tech news to tell you about this week, including aero bars specially designed for riding indoors, Sidi shoes that don’t cost the earth, and how you can compete for a world title without leaving home. But we’re kicking off with some head-up display glasses that weigh no more than a standard pair. Is this smart tech ever going to hit the big time?

“The lightest, longest-lasting sports smart glasses ever”: Engo launches Engo3 Titanium

Will head-up display (HUD) glasses ever become mainstream in cycling? We’ve reported on loads over the years and even reviewed a few, but they’re still a niche product in cycling. Could that change with the launch of the Engo3 Titanium? At 28.9g, these are said to be the lightest sports smart glasses ever, with over 24 hours of battery life.

Like other HUD glasses, the Engo3 Titanium puts performance information within your field of vision. You get a colour display that you can customise via a companion app, and you can choose from over 40 metrics, including heart rate, pace, and cadence.

Engo says, “Beyond standard data, Engo Titanium integrates advanced widgets that allow users to follow structured workouts (such as interval training) and adjust their pace in real time, without taking their eyes off the road.”

The surprising feature is the weight: just 28.9g. Most of the non-smart glasses we review on road.cc weigh more than that.

The temples are 3D printed in France, and Engo has kept the weight low by keeping things relatively simple.

“All of [the] technology is focused on its light design and the quality of the display, rather than adding extra features which will add additional weight such as cameras, speakers, microphones and additional processing power that would require a heavy battery,” says Engo.

Engo Titanium glasses offer Bluetooth Smart (BLE) connectivity and are compatible with Garmin and other devices via the ActiveLook ecosystem.

They come with standard lenses for £489.95 or with photochromic lenses for £549.95.

Aerobars for riding indoors?!? Zwift Ride gets the full aero treatment

Aerodynamics might not make you any faster when riding indoors, but that hasn’t stopped Profile Design from giving Zwift Ride users the full time-trial treatment. The brand has launched the first dedicated aerobar setup for Zwift Ride, complete with integrated Zwift Click mounts and a slim Zwift Ride tray.

The result? A way for time triallists and triathletes to spend their indoor sessions training in the same position they’ll use on race day — even if there’s no headwind to worry about.

The aluminium Zwift Ride Supersonic Aerobar uses a ski-bend design, with adjustable extensions and Ergo+ armrest pads to help dial in your position. Anti-slip grips keep things secure, while integrated mounts for the Zwift Click controllers mean you can still shift, steer and navigate around Zwift without having to abandon your carefully honed aero tuck.

No, these bars won’t make you faster on virtual roads, but they might make it easier to train in exactly the right position.

The Profile Design Zwift Ride Supersonic Aerobar will retail for £220, with pre-orders now open.

You can read more about the development and testing of the wheels, including the wheels that Hunt tested its system against, in a white paper that accompanies the launch.

The front wheel is 54mm deep and a whopping 45mm wide (27mm internal) and is said to offer side-wind handling stability. The rear wheel is a little shallower (49mm) and narrower (38mm).

“Extra-wide rim beads (9mm front / 5.5mm rear) reduce the chance of pinch flats and add structural strength to the rim profile,” says Hunt.

Kostüme takes its no-waste approach from the internet to the real world

This is an interesting one: British cycle clothing brand Kostüme is bringing its demand-led preorder batch model to physical retail with the launch of Kostüme Partner Studios – an approach it believes is the first of its kind.

2026 Kostume Edit012
2026 Kostume Edit012 (Image Credit: Kostüme)

In the past, Kostüme would announce a new edition on its website, and you’d place an order. Then the brand would manufacture exactly what was sold, and you’d get your order a few weeks later. The idea is to cut waste. Here’s how the system works.

You can still do that, but now there’s another option too. Kostüme has opened its first partner studio with Port Velo Cycle Works, close to its home city of Bristol. You can go along to see and try Kostüme products ahead of each launch – so you’re taking a bit of the guesswork out of it – with preorders made via a dedicated Kostüme-powered microsite.

Kostüme says it is opening discussions with prospective partner studios across multiple territories.

If you want to get in on Kostüme’s latest collection, you need to be quick. Very quick. Preorders close at midnight on Sunday 11th October.

Pretty bike alert! Chiru Launches the VAGUS:i gravel bike

The VAGUS-i is made from Grade 9 titanium tubing – which you might know as 3Al/2.5V titanium – the most common titanium alloy used for bicycle frames. You get triple-butted walls and bi-oval tube profiles and a claimed frame weight of 1.62kg.

The frame comes with clearance for a 700x52mm tyre, and you can choose between an Enve carbon fork (50mm maximum tyre width) and Carbon Endurance Component (CEC) #425W fork (maximum 60mm tyre). Chiru reckons you get liveliness, precision and responsiveness with the Enve fork and comfort, stability and off-road capability with the CEC option.

The complete bike pictured here has a claimed weight of 7.8kg. Frameset prices start at €3,345 (which converts to about £2,835).

Cyclescheme and Halfords team up to make getting on two wheels cheaper

Fancy a new bike without the hefty upfront price tag? Cyclescheme has teamed up with Halfords to make bikes, e-bikes and cycling accessories more affordable, with salary sacrifice savings available at Halfords stores across the UK.

The deal means employees can use Cyclescheme to save up to 47% on a bike and accessories. There’s nothing to pay upfront, either — the cost is spread across payments taken from your salary in a tax-efficient way through your employer. That means less financial pain.

Cyclescheme says the deal opens up access to more than 3,000 cycling brands, giving you plenty of choice when it comes to finding your next bike or upgrading your setup.

Cyclescheme says, “The collaboration supports a shared ambition to make cycling more affordable, accessible and approachable for more people, helping remove barriers to cycling and encouraging more employees to choose bikes and e-bikes for commuting.”

The C word: Christmas

It can’t have escaped your notice that the weather has turned in the UK over the past few days; the endless summer wasn’t endless after all, and now, to compound it all, road.cc goes and mentions Christmas.

Why? Because UK premium kids’ bike brand Yomo has announced a new 18-inch wheel bike for kids aged 5-7.

Yomo says, “The new Yomo 18 has been created for those children who have outgrown a smaller bike but who may not yet be ready for gears. This ‘bridge size’ bike is built with stability in mind, with a child-specific geometry and is the latest launch in an increasingly successful range of fun, durable and lightweight kids bikes.

“The Yomo 18 bridges the gap between 16- and 20-inch bikes and features user-friendly advantages such as improved cable routing, sealed bearing hubs, a fully enclosed chainguard with corrosion-resistant chains and an integrated kickstand mount. Basically, it’s built to last and to keep young riders smiling and safe as they explore the world on two wheels.”

It weighs 6.6kg, comes in red, purple and turquoise as well as the pink option shown here, and costs £360. Every Yomo comes with a Bike Trade option, meaning you can trade it in for a bigger model when the time comes.

We promise not to mention Christmas again for at least a month.
