Katusha's Alexander Kristoff continued his terrific run of form yesterday as he claimed victory in Belgian race, the Scheldeprijs.
But behind the Norwegian, there was carnage as a huge crash brought down dozens of riders.
It happened with less than a kilometre to go, with aerial pictures showing several riders going shoulder to shoulder ahead of the line.
Astana rider Andrea Guardini and Lotton NL-Jumbo's Tom Van Asbroeck came together, both hitting the ground, and setting in motion a concertina effect that others behind them couldn't avoid.

It’s the Scheldeprijs – there’s not always a crash, but it’s not uncommon. There’s a really tight left turn in Schoten town centre, I seem to remember that claims a few scalps. But they do call it the “Sprinters World Cup”, they all get excited towards the end, and the infamous Belgian Ditch Magnet likes to get involved too …
