Well we've stroked our chins, talked about the rule of thirds and done that thing where you make a frame with your fingers – is that still a thing? – and here's our shortlist of 20 images of Autumn that have made it to the final reckoning.
That final reckoning will be done by Sir Chris Hoy himself, and the final lucky winner will be the receipient of a unique HOY bike, built by Sir Chris himself (Dave handed him an allen key at one point, he'd like to point out). It's one of a series of three special Autumn HOY bikes based on the £1,000 Sa Calobra .003, but with custom paint job and decals and finishing kit chosen by Chris. It's signed by him too, so it's a pretty special thing. And there can only be one winner, who will be announced next Friday, 25 October.
Here are our shortlisted users, in no particular order:
pondlife
gfw
darranmoore
d70ar9
Shugg McGraw
KiwiMike
JosephCoulson
brylonscamel
Kolob
callumlmcgrath

Well done to everyone that made it this far, and good luck in the last push! It's Sir Chris doing the final judging, but don't let that stop you loudly opining on which you think should win. After all, what else is the comments section for?

Thanks V much, the Colnago shot is mine, 7:30am once misty morning coming down Kirkstone Pass, Cumbria. It took my breath away, just had to stop and capture the moment.

Whilst I am disappointed at not making the short list some of the pictures here are shocking, over filtered rubbish.
Making everything orange or grey on instagram doesn’t make you an artist, 5, 15 and 21. 8 is a blurred picture of nothing by nobody, no character at all. And I’ll spit my coffee out if the abomination no. 18 wins; fake sunbeams, really.
Vote, 2, 6, 9, 19 anything ‘real’. Or No. 1, I like the smiley chap in no. 1 with the orange bike.

how do you know/why do you think they’re fake? just out of interest?

The Sun is 93 million miles away, its light is parallel; the lens flare would be originating outside of the frame of the camera; and finally, it looks fake, dude.
Any pic that has been obviously filtered or manipulated should be excluded. If this is genuinely supposed to be a photography competition not just a lucky dip.

I am number 5 and have only just come back to look how I did, simply took a screen shot from the video output of my GoPro that I had got for my birthday a few days prior. Wasn’t exactly trying to be artistic, just trying to capture the blur of the leaves as I rode through. I didn’t win so don’t worry, but do feel your comments are unnecessary. I’m just at uni and enjoy a bike ride, maybe you just need to see there’s more to life than abusing other people who have done better than you; I don’t know what picture you submitted, I’m sure it was well taken on a nice camera and summed up perfectly what you thought autumn is, but obviously there were only 20 photos that were shortlisted, sorry you weren’t one of them but it wasn’t the fault of anyone of the other users

Thank you for the likes the photo was given; my son only mastered riding a bike in April and now there’s no stopping him !

It’s a nice shot but there does appear to be a bike in the way of the stuning view… 😉
I’d go with #2 or #19 personally. There are some abominations in there for sure – suppose it’s to be expected these days when absolutely everyone has a phone camera and Instagram.

I think the shortlist should be scrapped, as there are some poor ones in there, and Sir Chris Hoy should be allowed to pick from the whole list. Does everyone agree?

Are you that desperate to win? Feeling threatened? I am delighted to have been shortlisted not that I was seeking that. I shared my 2 favourite photos not to win the prize but to celebrate the theme of Autumn having just enjoyed one of the best cycling holidays ever the previous week. I hope others have enjoyed my image(s)
Good luck tomorrow on your photo, I think you also captured something special from this changeable time of year.
Yes darrenmoore, I do want to
Yes darrenmoore, I do want to win. I didn’t share my photo for the love of cycling and the joy of sharing or I would have done that on the appropriate forum and sprinkled fairy dust and love on it. Its a competition for £1000 worth of bike! 🙂
Likewise chuffed to have made
Likewise chuffed to have made the list (#2), let alone have a few votes of confidence. It’s an amateur bike ride piccy contest, FFS. You’d think it was deciding the fate of a nation the bleating that’s going on.
FYI the photo was taken on the road between Preston Candover and Upper Wield, Hampshire – one of my favourite parts of the county. 1hr from London and you hardly ever see a car on this ride. iPhone5, ‘composed’ and shot on the go. http://www.strava.com/activities/87242142
Any of you Londonneurs out there, allow me to pimp Whitchurch, Hampshire as a great stepping-off point for rides: great pubs, a cafe, Co-Op/Tesco, 55 minutes from Waterloo. You can go south toward Winchester, down the Test Valley, or up into the ‘Hampshire Highlands’ for more hills than your poxy North/South Downs can muster 😉
Here’s about a bajillion routes starting/finishing here: http://my.viewranger.com/user/details/221

was it entered by a Mr Luke MacGregor? there doesn’t appear to be one in the shortlist, although some of the names are pretty cryptic
Great to be on the shortlist
Great to be on the shortlist and good luck to everyone who made it this far! Please don’t forget that we are only road cyclists, not photographers! Saying that, I took Picture No.10 of two mates of mine cycling behind me – not easy that, and I nearly ended up in a ditch. OK, so that doesn’t make me Don McCullin, but I guess I was prepared to suffer for my art!

Mine is picture 4
Contrary to some of the comments, it hasn’t been put through a filter or been pimped up in Instagram.
I took it on a Sony NEX-5 on a tripod balanced on a picnic bench, somewhere near the Slovakian / Hungarian border. It was just one of those mornings where the light was perfect, we had been wild camping so were awake nice and early to capture the sun rise.
I don’t expect it to win, as some of the others are better shots, however it always reminds me of the trip and certainly captures the Autumn morning.
