Carbon monocoque bar will feature in the team time trial

If you get the chance to watch the Giro d’Italia team time trial on television tomorrow (Wednesday, 9 May), keep an eye out for the new Twin Foil aerobar on Lampre’s Wilier bikes.

It’s a new carbon monocoque bar designed for the Wilier Twin Foil that we reviewed at the start of the year – although our test bike didn’t come with the new bar design. The bars will fit any other bike with a stem that features a 31.8mm clamp. They look vaguely similar to Vision’s existing Trimax Carbon bars but the shape is certainly tweaked and the clamping area is wider .

The base bar is 41cm wide while the extensions are 290mm to start with, the idea being that if you buy a set of these when they come to market, you cut them to length. Those extensions will come in three different heights – 25, 40 and 60mm. The gear and brake cables run internally, exiting at the rear of the bar, and the overall weight is 765g. We don't have any news on availability or price yet.

Keep your peepers peeled for the Vision Metron groupsets on the bikes of Vacansoleil-DCM and Androni Giocattoli too. We’ve shown you most of the time trial-specific kit before although the Metron chainset in a BB386EVO design is new. It comes with hollow unidirectional carbon arms and an extruded AL7050 axle and weighs 730g.
