1. Giro d’Italia Stage 1: Tom Dumoulin takes win and early lead in Jerusalem, Froome crashes in warm-up

It’s begun! Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb) won the opening 9.7km time trial in the Giro d’Italia, edging out Rohan Dennis (BMC) by two seconds. Chris Froome (Team Sky) could only finish 21st, 37s adrift, having crashed heavily earlier in the day during a recon ride (see the vid on yesterday’s road.cc live blog).

3. Football superstar Lionel Messi wins seven-year trademark battle against Spanish bike brand Massi

This was a messi case… superstar footballer Lionel Messi has won a seven-year legal battle to register his surname as a trademark, overturning a previous decision in favour of long-established Spanish bicycle brand, Massi.

4. First Look: Gore C7 ShakeDry Stretch Jacket

5. Lumos helmet with indicators gets fresh updates and is now available to buy in Apple stores

The Lumos helmet has 48 LED lights and was successfully crowdfunded in 2015. It now supports hand-activated turn signals when used with an Apple Watch, and has become the first bike helmet to be sold in Apple Stores.

7. Chris Froome says he is confident of winning doping case

Chris Froome has said that he believes he will win the anti-doping case triggered by an adverse analytical finding for twice the permitted amount of the anti-asthma drug salbutamol during last year’s Vuelta, which he won.

The driver concerned received a fine after being caught munching on film by a cyclist on whom he had just made a close pass.

9. Safety fears raised over cycle path on viaduct in Bristol

South Gloucestershire Council has sought to reassure cyclists after safety concerns were raised in connection with a cycle path on the Bromley Heath Viaduct, which forms part of the A4174 Avon Ring Road in Bristol.
