On the back of the release of the new Spectral 29, Canyon has introduced a brand new hardtail into the brand’s line-up. Simplicity, versatility, and a budget-friendly price is the name of the game with the new Stoic. It’s made to be as happy down techy singletrack as it is at your local pump track.

With the new Stoic, Canyon has promised that no corners are cut on any model. Each model gets the same 6061-alloy frame with Boost 148 spacing for extra rear end stiffness and space for a 2.8×27.5″ or 2.5×29″ tyre.
It’s built to be burly too. The brand has designed the Stoic to fit into ‘Category 4’ which is the same category that the EWS ready Strive sits in.
Simplicity is key with the new bike. As such, the brake cables are externally routed for swear-free maintenance. The derailleur and dropper cables do go through the frame, however, but there’s a spacious access port at the bottom bracket and the ports at either end have enough room to stuff an inner and outer cable through.
Canyon has aimed to create a super versatile bike with the Stoic and to do this the brand has combined reduced offset forks with longer reaches and a 65° head angle on all frame sizes with a 75° effective seat tube angle. A Large frame gets a 480mm reach.
The bike comes in an impressive range of six sizes with 2XS up to S benefitting from 650b wheels, then M up to XL getting 29er hoops. Canyon believes that these are the best performing wheel sizes for each size of frame to promise similar handling on every size.
To achieve a similar stack height throughout the size range, the 650b bikes get a 150mm fork, whereas the 29ers get 140mm of travel.
The Stoic comes in three models, the cheapest of the three featuring an SR Suntour XCR34 fork, Shimano Deore drivetrain, and Alex Rims hoops laced to Shimano hubs.
The priciest bike, the Stoic 4, gets a RockShox Pike Select RC with a SRAM NX drivetrain, Canyon’s own dropper, and the same wheels.
Prices for the new Stoic models start at £850 and go up to £1,800 for that ranging topping Stoic 4.
