GB, US and Australia hold public open sessions at Newport Velodrome for Paralympic preparations

Great Britain’s Paralympic cyclists are following the lead of the country’s Olympic track stars by using the Wales National Velodrome in Newport to make their final preparations for the Paralympic Games which start later this month – and the venue in South Wales has also been chosen for training by their Australian and American counterparts.

As in the run-up to the Olympics when the public were given the opportunity to come along and cheer Sir Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton and the rest of the team as they trained for London, a number of open sessions will held, allowing fans to come along and watch for free.

Unlike the pre-Olympic session, this time no pre-booking is required, although spectators are asked to arrive half an hour before the start of the session they are attending.

Australia held the first open session yesterday, and will be back at the Velodrome on Friday 17 August between 9am and 12 noon. On Wednesday 22 August, Australia will take part in an open session also between 9am and 12 noon.

Then, on Thursday 23 August between 2pm and 5pm, Paralympics GB will take to the track before the Australians return for the final open session the same evening from 7pm to 10pm.
