Halfords Tour Series issues call for volunteers to help staff this year's city-centre races

Goody bag for everyone plus 'star volunteer' will win VIP Experience at Tour of Britain...

Organisers of the Halfords Tour Series have issued a call for volunteers to come forward and help undertake marshalling and other duties at the eight-race programme of city-centre races, which gets underway in Durham on Tuesday 24 May.

All volunteers will receive a goody bag by way of thanks, while the ‘star volunteer’ will win a VIP Experience for two at September’s Tour of Britain.

The Halfords Tour Series takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings during May and June, and after Durham, races take place at Aberystwyth (Thursday 26 May), Peterborough (Tuesday 31 May), Colchester (Thursday 2 June), Stoke-on-Trent (Tuesday 7 June), Oldham (Thursday 9 June), Woking (Tuesday 14 June) and Canary Wharf (Thursday 16 June).

If you're interested in volunteering, you’ll need to be free from around 1pm on the date concerned. To apply, send an email to info [at] thetour.co.uk mentioning which venue(s) you’d like to volunteer at and stating the venue in the subject line. You should also include your full name and a contact telephone number.

"I'd like to thank everyone who volunteers to be a part of this year's Halfords Tour Series," said Series Director, Mick Bennett. "Volunteers are an integral part of cycling in this country, and without people giving up their time to assist in the running of events there would not be such a diverse range of cycling events.

"I'd like to think that everyone who volunteers with The Halfords Tour Series goes away proud of what they've been a part of, for volunteering allows members of the public to get close to the action and say they were an important part of The Halfords Tour Series."

Hi Jayme
On behalf of the organisers I would like to apologies for this. It should not have happened and I will look to see why it did in the first place. We are always very grateful to our volunteers.
Sorry you didn't get a goody bag, if you would like to email me your address I will get one sent out to you. My email address is Kathryn [at] thetour.co.uk

I was a volunteer last night in Oldham. There was no goody bag and no thanks from anyone involved with the tour series. 8 hrs I stood at the side of the track and did not even get offered a drink of water. Very poor from the organisers, I will not be doing it again.
