Cyclist dies after crashing into parked car

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the tragic accident

A cyclist has died after he collided with a parked car in a seaside town.

The tragic accident happened just before 9.50am on Friday at the junction of Scarborough Road and Ravine Hill, in Filey, North Yorkshire.

North Yorkshire Police say the cyclist, a man in his late 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was fully closed for more than five hours as emergency services worked in the area. It reopened at 3.30pm.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and are asking anyone with information who has not yet spoken to officers to contact them.

The cyclist, who was riding a black bike, was wearing a navy blue jacket, blue jeans and a blue cycling helmet.

North Yorkshire Police said it does not believe any other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Sad as this is, why the hell does his clothing need to be part of the story? Pointless bilge.

As the police are looking for witnesses, I suspect it may to be help with this reason.

Looking for witnesses, presumably to see if he was riding erratically beforehand (e.g. was he having a medical episode that made him disorientated) or was he being aggressed by another vehicle in a way that might have made him panicky, etc. Seems fair enough in those circumstances to detail his clothing, someone might have seen something before the accident that could contribute to the accident investigators' understanding of what happened, which is after all their job.

was he having a medical episode that made him disorientated

With the age, what he was wearing (not condusive to fast cycling) and the accident was slightly up hill (from Police enquiries in another article), my first thought was medical episode rather then high speed into a parked car.
