At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Cycology's Men's Logo Bib Shorts are comfortable and well made, and don't come with an eye-watering price. With a simple bib short range, Cycology has really fine-tuned its 'staple' item.

  • Pros: Light feeling cuffs yet strong and secure
  • Cons: A little long, check your sizing

Comfort should always be a priority for shorts that you're going to spend many an hour in on the saddle. Cycology says the Logo Bib Shorts are 'designed with an emphasis on comfort' and it really shows. Simple yet effective touches like seamless bib straps and a compact but effective chamois have done the trick.

On no ride did I find myself squirming around on the saddle or manhandling the Lycra for better positioning. The legs are tight without over-compression or irritation. There was occasional bunching of material in the crotch when standing and walking around, but what pair of cycling shorts doesn't do that?

The 'laser cut elasticised grippers' are soft to the skin yet surprisingly secure, but their positioning brought out my only negative about comfort. The shorts seem a little on the long side, considering I was testing a small pair, and I would have preferred them an extra few centimetres from the knee. Of course, you might prefer your shorts long.

Although it's not me pictured, you can see the position of the cuffs near knee level from the front on. The shorts naturally retract when on the bike, but it wasn't enough for me personally. Check the sizing chart carefully before selecting since the opposite was the case for the Cycology Women's Logo Bib Shorts, with the sizing coming up a little small.

The chamois is smaller and better fitting than others I've tested, and yet was comfortable even on long days. The padding is bolstered on pressure points, with a flatlocked outer seam causing no irritation.

The bib straps, raw-edged from the collarbone down, are soft on the skin with a firm hold. These are stitched into the breathable mesh panel that runs from your lower back to the shoulders, minimising sweat build-up and allowing quick wicking of moisture.

The manufacturing and durability of the shorts is impressive and speaks volumes of the quality that Cycology is aiming for. Not a single loose thread or seam after a month of testing, which even some of the most expensive shorts I've tested can't match. Impressive for such a reasonably priced pair of comfortable shorts.

The subtle 'Cycology' logo, which is heat pressed onto the leg, creates a clean understated finish along with the added touch of reflector strips woven into the rear leg seams for safety. If you want a little more colour, there are six other variations in the 'Logo' range with coloured leg cuffs.

The shorts also have factor 50 sun protection, allowing you to just think about protecting your exposed skin.

There aren't many pairs of bib shorts as comfortable and hardwearing for just £70. The recently tested Northwave Origin and dhb Aeron bib shorts have scored well, but others in the same price bracket like the Altura Repel and Lusso Synergy would struggle to compete.

Value for money is far greater for the Cycology Men's Logo Bib Shorts than many of the more expensive brands out there. Provided you get your sizing right, they're well worth a try.

Verdict

Very impressed with the construction especially considering it's not at the expensive end of cycling shorts. Gave it some tough testing and no issues with seams or material at all.

Fit well, with minimal bunching, if any, and good positioning of the chamois.

Let down a little by the leg length. Tricky to say go down a size as the rest of the fit was great, but worth taking a good look at the sizing chart.

Great comfort. No irritation from any seams and chamois was still comfortable after long periods. Leg cuffs were tight without over-compression.

Considering the quality, these seem like great value for money. I've tested far more expensive pairs and been hugely disappointed so was very pleasantly surprised by these.
