At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Primal's unicorn socks are great, primarily because they have a picture of a chubby flying unicorn on and they're covered in stars. Also they're good performance socks that are comfortable and hardwearing.

  • Pros: They have unicorns on them
  • Cons: Soon it'll be too cold to wear them

Primal uses an 'Advanced Air Transfer System Fabric' for these socks, a mixture of acrylic, nylon, spandex and Lycra. The mesh top weave allows your feet to breathe and the denser-weave sole is pretty good at resisting wear. I've had these same socks in the electric shock design and they lasted a year of heavy use; in the end they got a bit saggy as the elastic elements gave out, but they didn't wear through.

They wash easily in a normal cycle, and they don't get unduly smelly even though they're fully synthetic.

They're comfy to wear and available in two sizes to cover feet from size 4 up to size 12. They're a fairly tall cuff, which means that you can pull them up outside your bib tights and cheer everyone up on a chilly day. Until it's too cold to venture outside without your overshoes on. Come to think of it, I'd definitely go for some overshoes in this print. How about it, Primal?

It seems to be doing a very colourful fart, too, but I imagined that can't be helped based on the amount of gastro-intestinal surgery those sutures on its torso seem to reveal

It's a badly drawn religious pig wearing a party hat, clearly yes.

I like to leave open the possibility of something better.

After all, they don't do matching jersey and bibs
