First Rollapaluza Urban Hill Climb – 22 July

They’ve done roller-racing and night-time cyclocross, now the Rollapaluza team have turned their attention to another cycling specialism: the hill climb.

The first Rollapaluza Urban Hill Climb takes place next Thursday (22 July) between 6pm and 9pm at Swains Lane in Highgate, London – and they’ve managed to get the road closed for the evening.

Condor Cycles are supporting the event with prizes worth £750, and Rollapaluza are putting up their own cash prize pot of £500 so there’s plenty to climb for.

This first Urban Hill Climb has been inspired by the famous BEC and Catford hill climbs that take place later in the season. Swain’s Lane is well known to north London cyclists – it climbs sharply - at gradients up to 20% - from Hampstead Heath to Highgate High Street and features in Simon Warren’s new book 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs, in which it's described as 'a proper cycling hill'.

The event takes place on the same day that the pros in the Tour de France battle their way up the Col du Tourmalet.
