Video: Kiwi BMXer lands quadruple backflip

Jed Mildon stunt ends race against fellow Nitro Circus rider and friend, James Foster, to be first to complete the trick

If you become the first person to land a triple backflip on a BMX, what do you do for an encore? Sanity might have led him in another direction, but New Zealand BMXer Jed Mildon instead followed simple mathematics and recently delivered a quadruple backflip.

Mildon was the first person to land a triple backflip on a BMX in 2011. “Once I landed the triple flip I knew straight away a quad was possible,” he told Ride BMX magazine. Since then, he has since been engaged in a race with fellow Nitro Circus rider and friend, James Foster, to land a quadruple.

This eventually resulted in ‘Revolution Day,’ where the pair both made attempts on the same ramp. As the video shows, Mildon’s successful effort was the culmination of several months of ramp tweaking and painful failed attempts.

It seems it was far from a bitter rivalry between the two, however. “Most of the project I wanted James to land it so we could be done with the project and move on,” says Mildon.

Nor was it without cost. Foster puts the damage at “ten broken ribs and a separated shoulder,” while Mildon got away with “just a couple KOs”.

The two riders will be part of the Nitro Circus tour which will visit Manchester, Glasgow and London next February.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.
