Gareth, some really good how to videos here on building
http://www.youtube.com/user/wwwartscyclerycom/videos
Im not for one second saying that you should use a gear cable for brakes, but I wish they would make them in a size that you could as the design on the innards of a gear cable is much better that for brakes, and would give a much better feel
Im sure there is a very good reason why they dont, but if nothing else it would make life so much easier
Thanks for the comments, first thing I did was check the cuts at the end of the cable which were initially causing friction at the lever end. The callipers are working perfectly. Will double check them though.
To be fair if I could use the gear cable it would probably yield better results as Campagnolo brake cables are a lot more flexible. I have not got confused yet
Will give PX a call tomorrow, thanks again.
Have you done the following checks
1. Undo the cable from the brake and holding both ends of the cable gently pull it to and fro. If there is something stopping the cable you should be able to feel it and be able to identify if it is a outer segment or the run through the frame
2. See if the caliper is free to move and opens easily sans cable. Quick clean and lube of the caliper should resolve.
3. Check the ends of the outers, is the cable trapped or running free in each segment of outer. File the outer end until it is flush and fully open
4. Finally check the end caps sit flush with the end of the outers and don't kink. Refit if needs be and ensure outer end is snug in the end cup.
Hope this helps.
Give Planet X a ring, see what they say about routing the outer or not.
Also, I once used a gear outer instead of brake outer, the slight difference was enough to make it not work
