Hollywood actor Benedict Cumberbatch has been seen arguing on the streets of Central London with a fellow cyclist who accused him of jumping multiple red lights.

The actor, best known for his roles in Sherlock, The Imitation Game and Doctor Strange was filmed last week dismounting his bike and approaching a fellow commuter. The other cyclist, wearing a baseball cap and a snood over his mouth and nose, had reportedly ridden behind Cumberbatch and was heard telling the actor “you’re deluded” and “you’re lying”. Cumberbatch responded by accusing the cyclist of verbal abuse, as reported by The Sun.

The footage shows the accusing cyclist making a crying hands expression before saying “Oh no! I verbally abused the guy who completely repeatedly broke the law.”

“No, I didn’t. Once,” replied Cumberbatch who moved to have the exchange to the other side of the road, blocking a cycle lane for approximately 10 minutes.

A third person was later seen briefly talking to both men at a zebra crossing, whilst onlookers watched on. In tabloid fashion, the newspaper brandished the exchange a “blazing row”, to the amusement of many social media users who branded the exchange “the most polite “blazing row” in the history of blazing rows,” “upperclass wrestlemania” and a “quintessentially British altercation.”

Further diffusing the situation was Cumberbatch’s attitude after the exchange ended, reportedly “managing to charm everyone” who had stopped to watch the exchange before posing for photos with some fans, according to the witness who filmed the argument.

The witness also sided with the actor, saying “I don’t condone any dangerous driving, but for this guy to follow him and cause an incident like this was worse.”

Strangely, unusual cycling incidents are no mystery to Cumberbatch with the actor jumping out of a taxi to break-up an attempted mugging and assault of a Deliveroo cyclist in 2017, an act which pre-emptively branded the star a “superhero”.

Two years later, Cumberbatch was driving his Lamborghini 4×4 on the Isle of Wight when he knocked a cyclist off his bike, accusing him of riding in the middle of the road.

The cyclist, left with a bloodied arm, then slapped Cumberbatch, unaware he was a famous actor until he removed his baseball cap. Despite the violent exchange, neither party pressed charges, with the cyclist reported to have described Cumberbatch as “a bit posh but alright.”
