Chris Froome was among those collecting honours at Buckingham Palace yesterday. The double Tour de France winner was awarded an OBE for services to cycling.
Froome became the first British cyclist to win the Tour de France twice after his successes in 2013 and 2015.

After receiving his OBE, Froome told BT that the Duke of Cambridge had asked him whether he was a ‘sucker for punishment’.
“He said ‘Are you going to try and go for number three this year?’ and I agreed. I said I’d give it everything I’ve got. He did ask if I was a bit of a sucker for punishment that I keep coming back year after year to try again.”
Froome didn’t have any major celebrations planned and in fact said that he had a wind tunnel session scheduled for this morning.
He described his experience at the Palace as ‘surreal’ and added: “It goes beyond winning a bike race or anything – it’s an award on a much more human level and it really is humbling.”

The president of the AA, Edmund King, was another to receive an OBE yesterday. King was honoured for services to road safety and while he proclaimed himself ‘delighted,’ he added: “In the UK we have made great advances in road safety over the last twenty years but there is still much more to do when five people are killed on the roads every day. I will continue to do all that I can to work to make our roads safer.”

Well done…. bbuuuuhhht, how many tours does he need for a knighthood? 4 Olympic golds seem to get you the gong. Brad also had epic facial hair and timing.
