If a car has had an impact at above say 3 mph, why doesn’t it automatically shut itself down for 5-10 minutes? It’s very clear that drivers can’t be relied on to stop any more.In one way yes – we have things like ABS so you could speculate on a version of the “parking assist” tech that detected when collision with objects ahead was inevitable without braking and applied the brakes. Still a bit complicated. However… as we all know from tales here there are times when “for safety” you have to increase speed. Can’t recall seeing it written down but I’m sure someone will have some stories about “…and then I saw the lorry barrelling at me and if I hadn’t booted it…” or “we could see flames coming from the back of the tanker so we floored it and just avoided the blast”.
Less flippantly you could conjecture a need to e.g. drive someone to hospital following an accident. Or maybe the accident occured on the way there? But fundamentally the accellerator pedal is seen as just as vital as the brake so I doubt this one’s got (right) legs.
VW have something along those lines – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5NpXHxkrJc
Volkswagen’s Multi Collision Brake is a system that applies the brakes to prevent or mitigate a subsequent impact when a vehicle has been involved in a collision. If the airbag is fired in response to a primary collision, information is sent to the electronic stability control system to brake the vehicle. If the braking system is sufficiently intact to brake safely and effectively, the vehicle is automatically slowed down at a rate of 6ms-2 to a speed of 10km/h so that a secondary impact, for instance against another vehicle or roadside object, is avoided or at least less severe.

I was hoping I’d get my bike today. However ParcelForce has, for some reason, sent it to Wales. Probably won’t get it until Monday.

I’m still waiting for my
I’m still waiting for my Gravel AL:
Ordered it on the 16th September (delivery estimate 29th September), but needed to get my bike2work voucher sorted before they’d put me in the queue. Bit of a delay from my work meant I didn’t get the voucher until the 28th September. Ribble confirmed my order on the 1st October. Was expecting to get it at the start of November. Currently the Ribble website is showing an Estimated Dispatch of 17 Dec 2021.
I’m not particularly happy about this, but I knew it was possible (likely?) this would happen. Most of the other alternatives I looked into were estimating delivery in March or April next year, or the bike wasn’t quite what I was looking for.
I think the communication from Ribble could be a lot better. I also feel that they may be being a bit too optimistic when estimating timescales (I’m a software engineer though, so glass houses and all that).

I think the way you ask
I think the way you ask questions can make a difference e.g. “Why don’t you ever prosecute close passes?” vs “What are the barriers you face in bringing prosecutions for close passes?”
As well as the not getting run over type of questions it might be interesting to ask about road rage (e.g. how to de-escalate a situation).

I think he means the A351
I think he means the A351 between the A35 and Wareham. Which is basically just a pavement you’re allowed to cycle on, I can understand why cyclists wouldn’t want to use it.

I mostly ride on rough roads,
I mostly ride on rough roads, so I’m on 28s. I’d probably fit 32s if my bike would take them.
The performance difference between 28s and 25s is going to be tiny, so if you’re not racing I wouldn’t worry about it. Max pressure for my tyres is 115 PSI, so it’s not like I can’t pump them up as hard as I want to on the rare occasions when I ride on smoother roads.

Trolls are by definition
Trolls are by definition disruptive, so I don’t think there is such a thing as a Good Troll.

9:51 is in Basingstoke (Eastrop Roundabout). When I used to drive to work it was pretty common to see vans either stuck under here or reversing out having just stopped in time.

As a cyclist, this doesn’t seem like much of an attitude or behaviour changer. It does reveal to a wider audience a bit about the weird attachment some people have to their cars; how desperation, violence and abuse lurk just below the surface. My local Facebook and Nextdoor has been full of anxious people apparently unable to get to work or take their kids to school without a car.
I’m not sure if the current fuel supply issues will cause anyone to rethink how utterly dependent they are on a car. I think it would take a prolonged crisis to do that, and this one is likely to be quite short.
