Combined with the data that shows drivers give less space to helmet wearing riders, and I think that their net benefit is negligible.

    Interesting one that…

I am also convinced that drivers seem more patient/safe around me when I am giving it some welly rather than pottering about on the tops.  Anyone else noticed this, or the opposite?

Definitely. The slower I go, the more close passes, beeps and rants I get. Doesn’t even matter if the reason I am going slower is that I am with the kids.

Have had Cero and Hunt wheels
Have had Cero and Hunt wheels (AR30 and 4 Season) and still have the Cero wheels. Hunt wheels went back due to braking and bearing issues. Would happily buy another set of Cero wheels – especially as they now have wider rims.

How was the freehub when you had the cassette off? Much play? Could be worn bearings in there grumbling away 🙁

    I joined a road behind

I joined a road behind another rider last week. He was going slightly slower than me and I had seen him going the other way about 25k earlier so I knew he was on a longish ride in cold, windy conditions. I had choices – overtake or hold a comfortable pace behind. The road was busy, with upcoming roundabouts and traffic light controlled junctions ahead so I decided to just sit behind him. No point being a MGIFer. I wasn’t slipstreaming him – just the next bike in traffic. After about a mile he turned and I shouted a ‘cheers mate’, not as a thank you for any ‘slipstream’ as I’d hung back what I thought was a reasonable distance, but just as a friendly comment to another cyclist.

I hope all this was not misconstrued and that the chap didnt think I’d used him to get a slipstream and had thanked him for his efforts, but I am now worried that  he might have actually been annoyed and wanted to blow snot all over me.

    Life is so complicated.

Have you looked at the Fat Lad at the Back stuff? I’ve no experience of their products but they do larger sizes.

I’d be interested. I cycle in running shoes and my feet get cold and wet when it’s ummm cold and wet. Would prefer a grippy sole rather than cleats (flat pedals). Would also prefer a low heel to toe drop – less than 8mm.

We had a small road bike in

We had a small road bike in the family that had the most inefficient brakes I had ever used (until we also got a BMX…). You could see the caliper flexing when the brake was applied. I replaced it with a Tiagra caliper and it was so much better. Bike was being used by a ham fisted young un who managed to put himself over the handlebars with his front brake on his mountain bike so grip strength was not the issue.

To wear a helmet or not is easy:
If you want to wear a helmet, wear one.

If you don’t want to wear one, don’t. Just be sure to tell your family that the possibility exists that you will be a financial and emotional burden on them, possibly for decades.

    And enjoy your feeding tube.

Wearing a helmet when riding a bike doesn’t ensure that you will never ‘be a financial and emotional burden on them, possibly for decades.’

It might reduce that risk very, very slightly, but with an attitude that suggests the helmet will save you from any brain injury then I suspect it would increase the risk very significantly.

    If cheap is most important

If cheap is most important then an adjuster with a nut either side would get it all working for next to nothing. But it would be a faff to adjust.

    Cars – yes. Very useful.

    Cars – yes. Very useful.

Car users – generally no. Seems to bring out the worst in the human species – selfishness and aggression.

Not a fan of Tredz – I stopped ordering from them due to their habit of taking orders without having the items in stock. So, you’d have to wait ages for the item to arrive.

    Same experience here 🙁

I have one and used it for about a year. It does have plenty of padding on the front – the only thing to note is the wide channel down the middle which could cause the edges to dig in. Using on my road bike caused some discomfort on longer rides but no such problems with tribars and in a much more aggressive position.

    Brilliant – thank you!
