I think the idea behind that
I think the idea behind that rapha link is that if you’re a classics racer then lets have all the classics together and not spread over the year, then the grand tours etc.. they’ve also ratified the 2nd tier races.. it looks radical and quite sensible to me.
Worlds is a bit of a weirdo race IMO.. why have it at the end of a season when a lot of riders aren’t in form.

Aww. I’m late to the badger
Aww. I’m late to the badger bait group can we go fox hunting instead?
I do think there is a little bit of truth in all sides mentioned throughout this thread (the bits I could be bothered to read). I don’t think road.cc is toxic however I believe that of the 100/200 regular voices being heard a small minority are more often singled out. Just remember not to feed the trolls, unless you enjoy it.
My take on any rise in anger recently is that it stems from people’s feelings of general discombobulation being amplified by their own sense of uncertainty with the world.
Every month we seem to be bombarded by media telling us to support another righteous cause, another political fuckwit to lambast to the point where there really are no sensible political voices being heard, another global doom alert, terrorists, pandemics.. as I consider this I 1) consider the reflection of my own current feeling 2) lament the dumbing down of the mass media for adding to all of this by acting not as an authoritive voice, but a more biased, spineless voice.

Cracked out the knee warmers last night for the first time since last winter… chilly last night… starting to think about indoor training 🙁

A good merino base layer, a good pair of winter socks and a pair of 3/4’s sees me through all but the coldest of days (when I’ll crack out the winter tights).
Also depends on the ‘type of riding’ you do.. my ‘lighter’ kit is okay for fast tempo rides as I’ll heat up pretty quickly.. but for more social rides, starting off warm is better.

I went to the south coast at the weekend to drop off my daughter with grandparents for a week, the roads were busy the whole way (from the midlands) there and back, but off the M3 through the new forest was just nuts.
It is of course to be expected, good weather, no abroad holidays, everyone has been holed up, the whole country is now heading to a UK coastline.

MrsD is a sun holiday
MrsD is a sun holiday desperado, if she doesn’t have a holiday planned at least a year in advance she’s unbearable.. over the past few years I’ve ‘enabled’ her addition to these kind of things by generally nodding and agreeing to mostly anything she says… it is easier that way.
When this COVID thing became a reality for most of us, our long planned summer holiday was inevitably cancelled, it was at this time I realised I was married to an addict. Within days of the dawning of this realisation she wouldn’t be seeing the sea or getting drunk on sun she turned into a werewife.
When the rumours of an ‘air-bridge’ to certain countries started to filter out, MrsD was back in business, within a day of the announcement we’d booked two flights to two different destinations within a month of each other! Both to Spanish isles, which are now kyboshed.
She’s determined to get outta Blighty one way or another, and akin to a force of nature, I’m sure she’ll make it. If anyone sees a brightly coloured inflatable doughnut heading south across the channel, give her a wave!
Last week, however, I, with offspring, went to Wales armed with little more than our bikes and a new frisbee, to visit the mothership for a few days, we got rained on somewhat and it was generally too windy to use the frisbee. Raining seems to happen on every British holiday I’ve ever had, I do see the appeal of somewhere dry and sunny. You should book somewhere…

I use an Alpkit Banicoot zip
I use an Alpkit Banicoot zip pouch which keeps all my essentials in. If I’m doing a one bottle ride it fits into my tool box screw top bottle thing which goes into a bottle cage, if I’m doing a two bottle ride it goes into my jersey pocket.
This means no need for any kind of unsightly or fiddly saddle bag and keeps the weight nice and low near the bottom bracket most of the time.

Big fan of the humble fig-us roll-us over here!
You won’t find a better carb/£ ratio, they are stocked everywhere and there’s naff all difference between ‘branded’ and own brands too.
Of course if you’re feeling flush.. my very fav cycling bars would be VeloForte ones.. which everyone should try (get a mixed bag of them as they come in handy sized chunks).

I feel your pain brother!
I feel your pain brother!
It took me a very long time to find the shoes I own now.. I made almost a hobby of finding bike shops wherever I went and trying on shoes for about a year solid.
In the end I stumbled upon a pair of old model shimano R321’s.. from a local shop.. it was literally the last pair they had, I must have walked past those shoes ten times and not given them a second glance as I’d considered ‘shimano’ to narrow. However these close around the foot in a way which lends itself to wider feet. You can still buy them, they are great shoes, worth a butchers.

I carry one of those stans
I carry one of those stans dart things (not used it yet), a small bottle (30ml) of sealant, valve core remover & mini pump. Which I suppose would replace: inner tube, mini pump and tyre levers.
The way I look at it is, if I had a tyre failure which couldn’t be repaired with some additional sealant OR a plug and some additional sealant, then I’m probably calling a taxi.
On the odd few times a year I go ‘away’ and might find myself stuck for a lift/taxi/train home then I’ll also take a small pack of tyre patches with me (like tube patches but thicker).
Probably tempting fate and all, but I’m pretty unfussy as to the kind of surface I ride.. the ‘only’ time I’ve had a tyre failiure which required a broom wagon.. was a sidewall tear about a third of the way around Hell Of the North Cotswolds in 2018, that was on 33mm Schwalbe X-One Speeds, which weren’t the most suited to that kind of terrain.

There I fixed it with a simple question mark.
You totally missed my point though. I was simply looking for a bit of anecdotal solidarity and/or possible stats to back up my recent run of incidents.
