very +1 on the park CT-5, a portable workshop quality tool. And I have a very retro early 90s Cool-Tool, and a practical size swiss army knife.
Would anyone know if I can buy one of those 8mm hex thay fits on a 6mm hex thingies? Many tools have them, and they look incredibly loose-able, but I could not find them being sold seperatly.
And still looking for a JIS driver in a multitool. Finally ordered my workshop one and it is hopefully wending it’s way from Japan. My bikes have no crossheads, but many JISs. I of course realise that the JIS is no longer the standard, but neither is Mr allen or phillips, name changes head seeminingly stays the same.

sorry to question your posts njwebster, but the email you give is remitconsulting.com. Isn’t that, in any way a commercial organisation? The website looks as though it is meant to make some money.

A fine letter hawkinspeter.
A fine letter hawkinspeter. I too live in the GWR area, and commute on a local service.
Last autumn, I was riding the Ridgeway, cycled bridleway along the Thames from Reading to Gorning and Streatly, where the Ridgeway sort of starts, and rode and rode, should have turned back earlier but, you know, kept going. Worried that I didn’t have enough battery power for the lights to get home and bumped into Swindon mountain bike club, who escourted me into Swindon and then by one very nice man who showed me to the station, of course the first train left whilst I was purchasing my ticket and so I spent the next hour worrying about getting on the next train because every announcement said I had to pre book. I asked the station staff if I could book through them, they said I should use the ticket office, which had of course closed hours ago, tried using my dumb phone to book, tried to get the other half to book on the computer, no luck. Station staff were confident, but you know, the “fear”. Train arrived, did the polite thing and the guard properly said get on and hurry because he wanted to get out of there. Phew. But I knew it was all down to the attitude of the guard.

Always be nice to the guard,
Always be nice to the guard, smile, wish them a good morning/afternoon/evening, ask “is it alright if…?”. Accept their decision with good grace and always be prepared to wait for the next train.
Local trains are always easier than the big, fast ones. Being very polite may work.

I liked Mantel.
I liked Mantel.
The others often pop up when searching for the rarer, older components I need. Some of the P+P charges seem a bit steep, or have a higher spend requirement for free P+P. Would happily use them. Going to get more difficult in the future, probably.

Leviathan, when you do change
Leviathan, when you do change the cables, fit cable oilers if possible, it does add to the hastle but means that cables last so much longer with better shifting and/or braking.

BBC that was no accident.
Driver seemingly going far to fast for the corner and conditions.
Why is it never an HGV coming when the driver is driving this badly?

Pump and tools in an
Pump and tools in an excellent Chrome large utility bag. Fits my rather long topeak pump. Tools include: a Park mini chain brute, 90’s classic Cool Tool, Pedros Milk levers, “fast” patches, Topeak digital pressure gauge and emergency tyre boots. Spare tube sits in an old and tatty bag on the strap of my TimBuk2 large custom courier bag. Tools go in when on the bike, come out when not. I cannot travel light.
I rode many years with the rucksack, some quite good ones, once I tried the courier bag I knew the I wasn’t going back to the rucksack. So much easier access, don’t have to take it off and open the flap up. Wide not tall so can delve better. And the capacity I can get would seem like a big, stuff rattling around rucksack.
