I have used the same 2.5 mm

I have used the same 2.5 mm difference many years ago, didn’t seem to make much of a difference.

I’m pressuming that you are right handed and that your right leg might be the more powerful, the slightly extra length on the left crank would equalise this.

Check to see if it’s your left leg that is slightly longer, one leg is generally so, if it is the extra length on the bottom of the stroke will make less problem.

Only my completely unknowledgeable opinion of course.

And it all depends how much of a bargain you are getting…

And you could always talk to a proper bike fitting specialist.

    Before I got me some

Before I got me some Middleburn cable oilers I would change the cables on my Getting to Work bike every year, picked up a set of brake and gear XTRs at the NEC mountain bike show thing, for less than £20.  Then picking them up cheap from the mail order companies in the mtb or mbuk.

    It just works, using some

It just works, using some form of “magic”” to know what valve you happen to be using.

I use Schraeder on my Getting to Work bike and Presta on my Good bike, with my new Ultimate Commuter is set up tubeless so Presta on that one.  No messing about, just push on, lever up and pump.  Have one on my carry round Master Blaster DX too, chuck only, no tube.

    It spookily knows…

Been using for 2 decades now, an internal part broke on my first (Joe Blow DeLux) but it still worked, got another, and last year or so I combined the two, for a “perfect” setup.  Still kept working with broken internals too, but not quite so well.

Next replacement gets me the above shiny.

Just had a look and it gets a pressure release too.  If only the pressure gauge on the track pump was accurate, I have to use my Topeak SmartGauge D2.

I think Topeak make incredible pumping stuff.  Got a Lezyne Micro Floor HV, looks so flash, wish I’d gone for the Topeak version…

    Are the chainrings looking

Are the chainrings looking sharp, with uneven wear, like sharksfins.

    Compare them to pictures.

Worn chainrings tend to cause chain slip when laying down proper power, pulling away from lights or sharp inclines.

My middle ring (your smaller) wears fastest.  I even had to obtain a new granny ring recently, though the worn one caused a weird chain suck thing rather that the slipping that the middle or large ring causes.   It would drag the lower chain up towards the frame and cause a “lock”  Really bad when on a new chain.

New gear cables and setting up right would be a cheaper thing to do first, and seeing the age of the bike, probably needed too.  At the very least a good lubrication.

    I know you have expressed

I know you have expressed your veiws on press on chucks, and the way they push the valve into the tyre as you attach them, and necessitate pushing the valve from the tyre side but I have enjoyed my Topeak Smartheads.

And you can get it shiny…

I’ve never had to use my

I’ve never had to use my chain breaker (Park chain pup and original CoolTool) when out, but I have used it to help several others.  A colleague was quite surprised that I could fix so much stuff.

My chain has gone at the quick link twice, once after just fitting a new chain.  The other time I think it was because I hadn’t realised that there was only a certain number of times they should be released and refitted.

Gave a quicklink to some poor unfortuate when off road, their front mech had destroyed itself, they had popped the rivet out and were trying to reinsert it, in the dark and cold.  They were impressed and were unaware of the quicklink.

Broke a few chains back before I learned the importance of looking after the drivetrain.

    Ah well…

    Ah well…

I hope you and the bike are alright.

Unless there are some consequences for awful driving, the driver will never learn and the next person hit might not get to walk away.

We now have no hope for inverstigations of close passes if the police won’t investigate a proper hit.

The TV advert for the Worx

The TV advert for the Worx battery pressure washer has tempted me.

As I understand it a powerful pressure washer can force water past seals, carrying grime with it.  My pedals life was seriously reduced by testing how waterproof my 5 10 winter shoes were (answer, the upper very, the tongue not quite so much).

But then, I kind of like my bike to be a bit dirty (drivetrain as clean as possible though) as it might be slightly less appealing to the scrotes.
