Iamnot Wiggins wrote:I once used an 11spd DA cassette with my Chorus 11 groupset for a ride and it shifted, and sounded, like a bag of spanners! Never again.Interesting… there’s no obvious technical reason for that so my first thought would be fitment, adjustment or wear.
Iamnot Wiggins wrote:I’ve had Campag cassettes that have lasted for years so paying £80 for one is hardly going to bankrupt anybody, especially if they get a good usage from it.Fair enough. In this case however the OP has a Shimano fit wheel already.

Not only would that not be easier, it would also be significantly more expensive.

Why the lie ?
What lie ? JTLs name was added to the list of banned riders with the reason “Biological Passport Finding” by the UCI who subsequently released a statement including this
A 2-year ban was imposed on the rider as a result of his anti-doping rule violation based on his Athlete Biological Passport. .
(my emphasis). The substance wasn’t named at the time in the statement, but so what ? Is that what you’re on about ? What part of this is related to Sky ?

Bike Science (Andy Sexton)
Bike Science (Andy Sexton) were not cheap but very thorough (Level 2 – Retul 3D dynamic) and solved a whole bunch of stuff. Also used them for Fizik saddle fitting which was really an investigation of lots of different saddles (very interesting and very well done) and at cost no extra than the saddle price (which was itself discounted). If I had the money i’d go there all the time.BW Cycling seem to be getting very positive feedback as well, and have an on-site physio (separate practice, not formally associated but interact with each other). Not tried them yet but will be going to the physio there very soon.

Firstly, 25mm tyres will run just fine on rims designed for 23mm tyres, technically they are not quite so aerodynamic but the marginal gains are not worth an upgrade.True – but the benefits to comfort and grip can be quite significant however.

Not quite the same but i’ve
Not quite the same but i’ve been very happy with 23mm (ext) / 17.5mm (int) rims. Running Vittoria Open Pave 25mm they come up at ~27mm at the widest point, Vredestein Fortezza Tricomp 23mm @ ~25mm, both of which run very nicely and seem to be more comfortable and smoother than running on my previous 15mm internal rims, in particular the Vredestein. I’ve been running about 5-10psi lower in general than on the narrow rims without apparent penalty (quite the opposite). In theory they should be giving more volume for a given tyre than a narrower rim, but at the same weight – in practice i’d not disagree with that although these things are notoriously subjective. FWIW I wouldn’t go back to the narrow rims.
As for whether it’s worth the swap for you – i’m afraid I don’t know… I made the swap because the wider rim wheelset was lighter, wider and tubeless ready so the (quite small) cost of a second hand set made sense to me.

dunnoh wrote:I ride Vittoria Paves. I tried the Duranos for 3 months this winter and I was very impressed although they were a tad wobbly in the crud and wet. Paves puncture a bit and are a pig to go on, but I can bomb along on them and feel safe and comfortable in rubbish weather.I’d second the Pavés, I have the 25mm and like them a lot – bags of grip in the dry or wet, seem pretty robust, comfy ride but lots of feedback and I personally found them very easy to put on the rims (Bontrager Race TLR). Not cheap and they obviously don’t feel as silky as some high TPI, lighter tyres but I they’ve done alright for me, I trust them and would use again.

randonneur wrote:Ant+ is old technology and no longer needed.ANT+ is older technology but is also arguably better for sensor technology than BLE for a number of technical and practical reasons. There is also a large installed base of ANT+ devices, which are still widely available and developed (often with dual protocol support), so the argument that they are no longer needed is specious at best.
If you have a smartphone with both, e.g. Sony Xperia, Samsung S3/4 and up, then you’re sitting pretty.
