Chorus 11-speed transmission with a 105 11-speed cassette

    OK everyone, I am sure this topic has been asked a good many times though I have done a search and didn’t see any threads come up. If anyone knows of one then just highlight.

    So I have some Campagnolo Chorus 11-speed transmission components, but my wheels are for a Shimano 11-speed cassette. I was considering just putting the current 11-speed 105 cassette on there. Will this combination work OK? I don’t see why it shouldn’t since its all11-speed. Perhaps there is some minor geometry differences between Campagnolo and Shimano cog teeth that is meant to influence smooth shifting. Would this compromise the operation? I was considering using KMC chain.

    Years? I’m lucky to get a year out of mine. if you’re lasting years on them you’ll be needing chain and chainrings at the same time.

    Well I didn’t expect to see as many comments about cassette compatibility. The general consensus seems to be that there shouldn’t be any noticeable difference in shifting if it was a Shimano or Campagnolo cassette. That’s good since adding the Chorus cassette to the existing cost of completing the 11-speed transmission swap is going to be a stretch at the moment. I understand from another discussion on this forum that I could replace the freehub body with one made for a Campagnolo cassette if I wanted to keep the wheels and run all Chorus. That’s good to know for future reference.

    Setup issue. The spacing on those cassettes is pretty much exactly the same, shifting is crisp and precise on mine.

    Interesting… there’s no obvious technical reason for that so my first thought would be fitment, adjustment or wear.

    Fair enough. In this case however the OP has a Shimano fit wheel already.

    11-speed cassettes are
    11-speed cassettes are interchangeable. I’m running an Ultegra cassette with Athena, and it works perfectly fine.

    I know it’s considered blasphemy by some, but hey, cassettes are essentially consumables, and I’m not paying £100 for a consumable.

    It’s only a free hub change
    When you can pick up 3 105 11 Speed 12-25 cassettes for one chorus 12-25 the effort makes sense. I usually stock up on Chorus when places have offers on.

    The wheel is set up for Shimano already, the other bits of the transmission are Campy.

    you can use a campag 11 speed cassette with 11 speed shimano mechs and chains, but I wouldn’t put a shimano cassette on a campag freehub or wheel, as you would need to rebuild the wheel, why bother with this?

    Not only would that not be easier, it would also be significantly more expensive.

    I have 105 11 speed groupset,
    I have 105 11 speed groupset, and two sets of wheels, one with chorus 11 speed cassette, and one with 105 11 speed cassette, I don’t notice any difference whatsoever in performance or shifting.

    Only difference I can detect is running out of gears sooner on the climbs, because campag tops out at 27, and 105 at 28

    It CAN be done, but I wouldn’t recommend at all.

    Easier to remove the freehub and cassette, sell those and get the campag replacements
