If you just look head on at

If you just look head on at anyone on a bike – the rider is a far bigger area to the wind than the bike.

So your position will have far more impact than the aero tweeks on a frame.

I hated my gabba – just didnt do it for me.

Get mudguards first of all – its rare that it rains all day but if you havent guards you’ll be soaking yourself for hours longer.

In summer I find a gilet enough to keep the rain out. Its too warm for a full jacket.

Well what are you doing in

Well what are you doing in your training ?  I’d not change something that works for you.

Personally I don’t often bother with breakfast but eat and drink on the bike from early on.

Little and often.  If you have a slap up meal halfway round you’ll not be able to ride as your body is busy digesting that rather than powering your legs.

    You’ve not ridden over 50
You’ve not ridden over 50 miles in a year ? That doesn’t sound like ideal preparation. See if you can get in a group of similar ability and don’t be a hero on the front.
    Have fun.

+1 on reflective kit for the legs or shoes or pedals. The movement catches your eye. I’d get comfy shorys not reflective ones.

As to a jersey you can get light weight mesh reflective gilets – so any Jersey can be reflective.

For ironman events there’s a company that will drive your Bike over for you. Costs slightly more than than flying with it but much less hassle. Look them up.

That’s a pain. What are BA saying ? You need to kick up a fuss – Twitter – social media – claim the cost of your Etape back ? I have had friends miss events due to bikes not turning up – but luckily that’s very rare.

    Good luck with the bike.

    Back in the day loose
Back in the day loose chainring bolts were a regular thing – I often lost one or two. Not had it happen in the last 20 years or so.

You really should be spotting stuff like this when you clean your bike – you do clean it don’t you?

    Ive happily used 25mm straps

Ive happily used 25mm straps on a tandem kayak on the roof for fairly long journeys. I always use more than needed though – I’m paranoid about having a strap disaster – but never had anything go wrong.  I’d thread through the handle of the case as one of the straps though – then it’s not going anywhere.

I think we need pics of your positions on both bikes. Maybe you’ve a good one on the hybrid and a not so good on the road bike ?

You should be a bit more aero on the road bike – that may not be important going uphill – but on the descents and the flat it will work for you.

    Just ride it rather than

Just ride it rather than looking at it from afar.  Presumably it works for you – so who cares what it looks like ?  It’s a bike – not a flower arrangement.

I’ve seen this on another forum and everyone there said it was the cyclists fault.

I would like to know who thinks it was the drivers fault and what he could possibly have done to avoid hitting a cyclist he can’t even see ?

    Mate wore the yellow Jersey
Mate wore the yellow Jersey when we went to see the tour. Riding up alpe d’huez he stopped for water. The crowd loved it – running over with parasols to shade him. Definitely do it. They’re far more friendly than cliquey British cyclist seem to be.
