One link shorter would be correct- the lowest sprocket is 4 teeth fewer , so the chain path is two teeth less. 1 link = 2 teeth.

    Red squirrels, being lighter
Red squirrels, being lighter than greys, can reach further out on pine branches. This helps them evade pine martens. Consequently the reds do better in forests where pine martens live.

Greys, being heavier, are faster downhill, enabling them to escape urban ground based predators. Which is why you see more greys in towns.

My similar spec has really low ratio gears. A SRAM Rival ‘long cage’ mech will take a 42, and with a 34 on the front I can winch up anything, even late in a race. Agree on through axles.

I was thinking of getting another bike with that spec, but I realised I could put a big cassette on my Raleigh CX, and fit a rack to the mudguard mounts, with a seatclamp rack mount gadget.

Really? Please don’t show up on here pushing useless supplements.

If I want to increase my intake of cumin and Vit D, I’ll go out for a ride on a sunny day, and have a biryani on the way back.

I have two Garmin 800, the oldest of which is at least 5 years old. It still works fine, and the Garmin software seems to be less infuriating than it was. The second one did freeze on me a few times, but that turned out to be corrupted SD card. When I reformatted the card and put it back in, it was all fine again.

Reason for two – lost the first one on a walk up Old Man of Coniston, and replaced it. Someone found it, contacted Garmin with the serial number, and Garmin mailed me. Very happy day!

Wonder if it’s worth buying your own hanger straightening tool for future use?

A useful addition to the tool box. Alternatively, you can make your own from a length of 20mm steel box, an M10x1 bolt and a couple of washers and nuts.

Agree it is a useful addition.

The DIY version sounds like a mech bending tool in my hands. I would need to improvise a sliding gauge to check the alignment relative to the rim, and machine the mounting hole and bolt with a sufficient tolerance that the wobble at the bolt was significantly less than range of satisfactory angles for the mech alignment. Both are outside the tolerances of my diy machine shop, which is basically a drill stand and a hacksaw.

DIY? Loads of vinyl decals or waterslide transfers available. Or have your design cut as a stencil, and rattlecan spray. I’ve had good results with Spray.bike. It’s acrylic and doesn’t run, sag or pool round fittings. It also doesn’t creep under masking.

You can do all the surveys, studies etc but you will never know if wearing hi-viz has saved you.

You cant record it, its impossible.

That’s why we have stats. At the individual level it’s hard to see, but over a large sample the effects are more visible. A large sample size and a long observation period should make the study powered enough to find an effect if one exists, and it seems to have done so here.

needs a few more graphs though.

Early morning ride today, but still with sunscreen on. I don’t put it above my eyes, but do have a peak on the helmet to stop my forehead burning. Lots of water/electrolyte. Main issues have been saddle soreness , which started off at a hot XC race. Since then I use chamois cream every ride, but still not back to normal.
